Still a lot faster than the Burrard Gateway project.

That one we even see the skeleton crew taking selfies.

Naw, the Cardero began excavation before Burrard Place which has a much large hole, and is now above ground. The Cardero seems like it's kids playing in the dirt. It's bizarre. If I'm wrong in my time line, so be it. I still maintain that this project is the slowest I've seen in my 3+ decades living in downtown.

For what it's worth, here's a comparison of the Cardero and Burrard Place from first serious excavation to nearing grade. About 18 months for the Cardero and about 21 months for Burrard Place. This is just a rough measure because of how you might judge "first serious excavation" and "approaching grade". They're both slow and have had long stretches of little visible progress.

Looks like we're finally up to grade, exciting. Very curious to see how the exoskeleton on this one plays out.

I think it more like fancy fins, rather than an exoskeleton.

Nearly two years to go from excavation to barely above grade!

I thought you were kidding about two years, but nope, it has indeed taken that long!

How is that possible? I feel like they have been working all along, but progress has been just super slow. Who pays for the extra expenses coming from such a delay?

Off topic but does someone knows why they transformed the parking lot by a dog 'park' on the other side of Georgia? We can see that in the 3rd picture.
I know that the whole lot (including White spot and the former gas station) is in project for new development but haven't seen anything new on the topic, at least nothing that explain why they need to get rid of a busy parking space to an empty dog park...

Almost certainly that's a 'tax avoidance' or 'meanwhile' park. As a parking lot they pay property tax at a higher rate than a public open space. BC Assessment determine the tax category that the land is taxed at. The city sets the rate that the property then pays - which will be low as it applies to all parks and gardens. See a discussion about 9 years ago. Presumably the income from parking isn't enough to be worth keeping it; cutting 70% of the tax bill is financially advantageous.
