Um, these are the "Rejected" designs. Do you have another link?

Although come to think of it, don't all of their designs so far look like rejects?

I'll admit that I didn't actually look at the drawings before posting the link. Nonetheless, they are the most recent drawings BDS has posted online. The only thing I can add is some meeting notes from a Design Commission Sub-committee Meeting held on June 6th.

Innovative Housing's Pearl project aims for affordability

Twelve stories high might seem short for a new development in the Pearl District, but it’s the first of its kind for this developer.

The first affordable high-rise from Innovative Housing is in the works in the Pearl District, having been through three design reviews. It’s slated to go to the Design Commission for potential approval on September 22.

“We really wanted to do something that brought some energy and vibrancy to it that our residents would look and say, ‘hey, that’s cool, I live in a cool building,’” said Sarah Stevenson, executive director with Innovative Housing. “We didn’t want to build something that looks like all the other affordable housing in the neighborhood.”

The new building is planned to include 93 units on an empty quarter-block site at Northwest 14th Avenue and Raleigh Street.
...continues at the Business Tribune.

This is listed as an upcoming City Council agenda item for November 23rd. I assume that they are appealing the Design Commission imposed Condition of Approval C (as the DJC suggested ($) they might):

Quote:
C. Conditions C.1-2 relate to the corner building element:
  1. Move the “lower oriel” up from levels 5 and 6 to levels 8 and 9 to create a singular oriel.
  2. Change the color of the upper and lower “corner wall” metal panels to match the checkerboard patterning of the “mid-block walls”.

(Images taken from Staff Presentation [PPT - 18MB] to the Design Commission.)

Appeal is taking place this afternoon. I don't really care either way about the design result, but I'll be interested to see if the City Council overturns the Design Commission for a second time this year.

Yeah, either way this one should challenge the Overton (NV) for the title of ugliest Pearl project.

All I have to say is that bike racks should never be closer than 2' apart. Try getting a bike out of that mess - such a pain in the ass!

Thats like having 6' wide parking spaces for cars.
