With or Without the Casino, Oxford Place (Towers) portion will likely go through, and without the Casino probably at an increased rate as well, cause all that municipal politics stuff will be for the most part routine as it deals with condos.

I have re-submitted drawings for most of these towers, and also proposed new height estimates, based upon the elevation drawing posted by Cruzin4u here: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...=203290&page=3 (see post #42)
88 floors - 295M
80 floors - 268M building at NE corner
80 floors - 264M building at NW, directly south of the 88 floor tower
75 floors - 247M
70 floors - 231M
40 floors - 184M
Toronto Star building - 139M after additional floors added

Thanks Koops!

And here's a DB entry for the additional tower (70 floors / 231 m) - http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=17941

So, can anyone in-the-know give us an inkling as to the chances of this (and the other biggies: Mirvish, Oxford) being built, given the pronounced sales slowdown publicized recently?

This one will happen, perhaps not at the heights they are proposing right now but something decently tall/dense will be built. Timing will be market based but with a project this big I would guess it will be a couple years before we see a shovel in the ground.

Mervish, I doubt anything resembling what they are proposing currently will be built there.

Oxford will also happen, although it looks like the casino is likely not going to get approval. Don't know if they will redesign/scale back without the casino but something will get built here.

I expect the Mirvish plans to go through provided that a major developer comes on board. Ultimately I think they will be shortened and highly cheapened, but nevertheless "Gehrys".

Thanks for your relatively positive input, guys. I hope you're proven wrong about the downsizing. It would be oh-so-predictably Toronto if we were to get some limp simulacrum of a breathtaking original plan.

This incredible development will have 6.4 million square feet of built space

http://business.financialpost.com/20..._lsa=b791-0f63

Quote:
Pinnacle’s proposal calls for six highrises, including an 88-storey condominium that would be the tallest residential tower in Canada; a 70-story highrise with hotel, and an office tower near the Toronto Star newspaper headquarters on Yonge Street, according to plans submitted to the city. If built, the combined 6.4 million square feet of space would be the largest residential mixed-use project in the country, according to real estate research firm RealNet Canada Inc.

The project file includes the heights for each tower in this development. I took the liberty of copying the chart from the PDF.

I'd recommend checking the entire file out. Some great renderings in there.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see my estimates weren't off by more than 1 or 2 metres...

hahaha, but seriously, so close to that 'magic' number! Just tack on two more floors and a garden shed and we're laughing.

I'm not sure, I haven't been downtown for a while, other than transit focus and infrastructural studies for a DRL line I'll be suggesting to the city council. (which most likely will never get approved.

Plus I think the meeting has already happened, but I don't know about the specific details of it.

The meeting was last night - an account from interchange42 at UT

Quote:
There were at least 3 UTers at the meeting tonight.

There were few members of the York Quay Neighbourhood Association present, and the meeting was perfectly civil, some good questions, no yelling.

The meeting was conducted by Mark Bales, development director at Pinnacle. Peter Smith, a planner at Bousfields talked about the project in the context of the city and broader provincial planning rationale, then turned the meeting over to David Pontarini who gave a thorough overview of the proposal.

There is concern in the neighbourhood that the project might overwhelm the sidewalks and traffic situation, but a transportation planner was on hand to answer questions about how that is being planned for. People seemed reasonably satisfied by the responses.

Nobody - NOBODY - complained that the buildings were too tall.

The meeting ended with a small round of applause after the last audience member to speak (cough) mentioned, in essence, that this appears to be quite a well thought out and exciting project.

There was not a lot new presented at the meeting that UT readers won't already know, but there were a couple of interesting details presented. I'll explain those in a front page story soon; I am requesting images so that those things can be explained clearly.
