Rotterdam (23 June & 4 November 2018)

Rotterdam is the second-largest city of the Netherlands with a population of 635,000. Areas in these photos: Centrum, Noordereiland, Middelland, Katendrecht. All photos taken on 23 June 2018 and 4 November 2018 with the Sony RX100 (model I) compact camera, without tripod.

1. Blaak street market.

2. The Lijnbaan shopping street was opened in 1953 as pedestrian-only zone.

3. Town hall square.

4. Central shopping district.

5. Street shop selling Feyenoord Rotterdam soccer team shirts.

6. The Great, or St. Lawrence Church was built between 1449 and 1525.

7. Municipal library, cubic houses, pencil building and the market hall.




11. De Hef train bridge operated between 1927 and 1993.

12. The Maastoren, Netherlands' highest building of 165 meters (541 ft).





17. The slender Delftse Poort tower, 151 meters high (495 ft).







24. Oude Binnenweg.


26. Paul McCarthy's Santa Claus statue (read more about it in Atlas Obscura).

27. Blaak subway station.

28. Nieuwe Maas river with water taxis.

29. Erasmus Bridge and Kop van Zuid area.

30. Former headquarters of the Holland Amerika Lijn ocean liners (now HAL cruise company), built in 1901 in Jugendstil style.


32. Jazz in the Fenix Food Factory.

33. Fenix Food Factory.


35. The former headquarters of the Holland Amerika Lijn is now a hotel and restaurant.



38. Central Station.

39. Underground bike parking at Central Station.

40. Central Station entrance.

So surprised to see many American elements in Rotterdam, but I feel Rotterdam is getting more and more Frankfurt am Main vibes.
No future dare pursuing, no past worth recalling, just live the present day, numb and soulless, everyday...
