I'll admit to being one of those fat waddling guys when I saw the Buckeyes get murdered at the LA Coliseum two years ago.

The thing I miss most, ever since the Bicentennial plates, are the county stickers. Now they're all numerical tags in the bottom corner, but I used to like being able to judge people's driving abilities based on their county (Clermont, Butler and Warren County drivers suck) without having to squint and match the number to the corresponding county.

Ontario has had the most boring license plate forever. The province has no requirement for replacing it so there are actually some people driving around with 35 year old plates that look like hell.

I said this about the change of the Michigan plate on another thread recently, but "keep it simply, stupid" would be the best advice I can give to any state DOT looking to f%ck with its license plates. For the love of god leave them alone, already.

The take on the new Ohio plates kind of reminds me of what they did with the new Michigan plate (i.e. inserting city skylines and then showing natural areas):

"Spectacular Peninsulas"

Wiki

Of the new ones, I'm partial to this one:

"Michigan.gov"

Wiki

And they can't ever replace the iconic...

"Great Lakes"

Wiki
I've always liked the new Michigan plates. The gradients are simple, and blend the bridge and skylines well into them...no need to be literal in color like the Ohio plate. I'd would say though even 3 colors (blue, black, and green) is approaching busy.

Minnesota just switched to flat plates a few months ago. They look horrible.

I've seen some that are rusted right out. The Ontario plate looks good in burnt umber.

I think that now that Michigan isn't using white on dark blue anymore, we should go back to our white on blue plates.

NH's slogan is extremely harsh. Scared me as a child (even more so today):

The new New York plate didn't pass, so we're keeping the old new plate.

It's a disaster. Period.

It's as if they're trying to make it look like shit. Race to the bottom. Art is dead.

Saying art is dead is a little much for a little license plate, no? The only thing I don't like is how little character or personality goes into what we consider art or marketing today. Everything is "focused grouped" and pre-packaged to such an extent that all we're looking at is a facade or mirage.

I was being a bit tempestuous there I suppose. If there is a mantra to keep though in regards to this license plate issue it would be 'less is more.'

Texas started using these last year. They're no longer stamped, and added another digit. I'd like them a lot more without the star and crayon looking coloring in the upper left corner.

Strange how so many license plates come in two or more colors I would never be caught dead wearing together... yet they're okay for plates? Why is that? Is this one area of design that gays are totally absent?

It's not the only area of design from which gays are totally absent. They could use a few of us to design public vehicle liveries as well.

Yeah, but you know the other extreme is...

"Famous Potatoes"

As a recently deceased comedian once said, the truth surely resides somewhere between "Live Free or Die" and "Famous Potatoes".

Without a doubt, the worst License Plate I have ever seen. It looks like vomit.

Man, have you not seen the new Oklahoma one? Or the old Kentucky one? Awful, tasteless.

My personal favorite is the old Nevada one- just white on blue. They still issue those as replacement plates, only flat.

My first car had the old maroon and white Arizona plates. Still not completely a fan of the current desert landscape plates we've been using since 1996.

Ultimate favorite is the 1982-1987 California "Golden State" plates.
