Thanks for the comments!

Such an amazing history, I'm still thinking about Detroit over a week after my visit. Really anxious to make another trip to Detroit and explore some more areas, but I probably won't be down that way for quite a while.

I like downtown so much I want to move it all down here to Philly.
No, Detroit has a great collection of Pre-War bldgs. My relatives there say that they hate Detroit. I say, "Why?"

I love this city, and I love these photos.

Detroit is like St. Louis's big brother.

Now that I think of it, you don't live in that region anymore, so Detroit is now a more exotic place to see from you. It's hard to believe that you didn't do any Detroit threads back when you were in the area, or closer than Ottawa. I'm assuming that you were in Wallaceburg for Christmas? Any other places that you stopped in while back home?

Great pics! I enjoy seeing Detroit from a visitor's perspective. Sometimes they catch something residents miss.

I've wanted to photograph downtown Detroit for a long time, but usually when I go "back home" I have social and family obligations, so no time for photos. Downtown Detroit is only an hour from my parents' house if the ferry isn't too busy, so I was able to make a quick trip. Unfortunately I didn't get to visit anywhere else on this trip. Even when I lived in Hamilton, Detroit was a 3+ hour drive plus border crossing, a bit far for a daytrip.

Wow! Great photo tour. Detroit is my favourite American City. The architecture is amazing and the people are fantastic. Brush Park and Lafayette Park are my two of the areas I find most interesting.

Thanks for posting these!

Masterful. Having never been there myself, I really get a sense of the richness of that city's architecture and what it says about its former standing in the world of powerful cities. In a way, maybe its economic fortunes delayed what would otherwise have been ongoing redevelopment, with the loss of many more of those gems. It is eerie, though, to see such a big city so empty. In all your pictures I counted two pedestrians (both in Greektown!), did you do that on purpose?

The Fox Theatre - now that's a real sign.

Great work my friend. Always a pleasure to see what you shoot.

Interesting Tour! It's hard to imagine all those buildings being completely vacant. They are some beautiful pieces of history. I know it won't happen today or even tomorrow but I sure hope the rest can be saved before they fall into complete disrepair.

Detroit is the whippersnapper, remember? We were building cars too, just not fast enough!

Man, I wish St. Louis had just one Detroit caliber dive bar with a Detroit caliber juke box. I'd blow up my liver in it.

Just browsing this again.
I always thought this was a strange building like they either tore part of it down or had a lot 15 feet wide and 100 feet long and during the Boom time had to squeeze every dollar out of downtowns land.

It's a Hotel or restaurant right? had/has a bar in the basement?

Amazing pics!!! Looks very nice... mostly...

Is it "Brush Park" in the upper right corner of that pic? (behind the stadium)

It's missing a lot of houses...

That kind of abandoned "window art" immediately reminds me of the Lafayette Building. Not a good sign at all...

Hope no one's planning to turn that lot into a vacant urban lot. I would assume downtown Detroit does not need any more of those.

These pictures are eerie in their raw, gritty beauty. Detroit has this feeling of having seen so much energy in its heyday, and now just slumbering, worn out, waiting for when it can come springing alive again.

Someday I'll be at a Tigers game, and when I'm in town I'll look around at the pre-war towers that make Detroit's skyline so outstanding.

Yes, that is Brush Park back there.

In the second photo, I believe the building was used by a number of jewellers. It's a great looking building, I really hope a new use can be found for it.

Yeah, that's the Milner Hotel.
Two things happened to it a few years ago. The Madison Lennox was demolished, exposing the north face of this building to public view. And the building got a makeover around the same time.

The Wurlitzer is in pretty rough shape; the facade is falling off in big chunks right now. Hopefully the owner will have the sense to try to mitigate the damage, I'd really hate to see it go.

Two separate buildings, both incredible and sadly empty. This is the front of the Wurlitzer Building:

Do we know who owns this Wurlitzer Building and what are his plans?

I wonder how much it would be selling for... considering it's empty and the inside's likely completely shot.
