I've heard proposals for a hotel ranging from 200 to 400 rooms at that site. It'll likely be another convention industry related hotel chain. Hopefully this will also spur the old Westin project to get back up and running.

Hotel is:

Marriott Marquis. The MDHA chose Marriott Int'l, with Hyatt just missed the mark to be chosen. However, Hyatt may anchor the nearby adjacent hotel pictured above. This will be the 5th Marriott Marquis in the company's portfolio, with others in NYC, Miami, Atlanta, and Washington. The 4th is currently under construction as part of Metropolitan Miami's MET 2 development at Biscayne Blvd Way and SE 2nd Avenue.

Good looking project. Sobro will become a hot area like the Gulch which is now one of my favorite parts of the city. I wonder if the rendering is a working model or will the final project be what we see. Many towers in Nashville had renderings that changed over time.

That'll never happen, at least that height. The # of condos has been significantly reduced, which cut a lot of the height off.

Bump for new talks, with a new chain.

The City of Nashville and the Nashville CVB are currently in heavy talks with Texas-based Omni Hotels to acquire/purchase land behind the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum from Tower Investments to build the proposed "anchor hotel" of the MCC. A deal may be reached before the end of the year, but it needs to be done before next spring in order for it to open along with the MCC in February of 2013.

Along with these new talks, the talks with Marriott on establishing a Marriott Marquis are likely over, and the current rendering is likely done and dead.

Reminds me a lot of the new JW Marriott Hotel being built in Indianapolis.

Omni has been announced as the hotel developer. $250 million 800 room hotel to be connected with the Country Music Hall of Fame. Can't wait to see the design. I drove by the convention center site last week and was completely surprised at the size. Nashville is jumping again!

Here's the new rendering for the convention center hotel. The firm is Hill Glazier Studio out of Dallas.

A bit underwhelming, but I'll reserve total judgement until they release more renderings.

I agree, I was hoping for something around 400' or so and I'm not really happy with the design but like you said until I see the final renderings I won't judge too hard.

The one plus over this design is that Omni is paying for this project where as with the Marriott, the taxpayers of Nashville would have been stuck with the bill.

Exactly. At the same time, until they submit the offical plans listing the height, I will not change the name, height, and floor count listed right now.

I know this is a skyscraper website, but at least this will add to skyline in SoBro and will be just a little bit taller than the Encore at 220ft. From what I can see though it looks as if one side may be a glass curtain, which is different from the Atlanta Omni, but was hoping for something along the lines of the on just completed in Fort Worth.

Personally, I don't care too much if it's tall or not, as long as it's interesting. Based on this rendering however, I wouldn't say it's even that. I mean I understand that not every new building can be an iconic architectural achievement, but can we at least have something that looks like it isn't straight out of 1978?

Omni Hotel design

The Omni Hotel design for the Nashville Music City Center is very disappointing. Renderings can be a bit difficult to gauge, but I'm not seeing much in this design that says a lot of effort was put into the concept. As some designers are trying to break Nashville away from the typical box look, this design comes right back to it. I wasn't overly sold on the Marriott Marquis design, but it appeared to at least have some flare to it that would give visual interest. Outside of the use of varying facades and glass I don't see how the Omni design connects to the contemporary design of the MCC.

I truly hope that people involved in this project will ask Omni to go back to the drawing board and come back with a design that is more striking and relevant to the SoBro area. When you look at the Bridgestone Arena, The Pinnacle and even the Country Music Hall of Fame, those buildings all offer a different look than the buildings north of Broadway. The Omni design realistically isn't that much different than the Encore Condos located a few blocks away.

Quite frankly, I've never been impressed with Omni Hotels and was hoping Marriott Marquis would be the anchor hotel to the convention center. Unfortunately, that didn't happen because Marriott wanted tax monies to build and Omni did not. So, guess who would win that battle?

Omni can do better and Nashville should challenge them to do better.

All of us in Nashville are just hoping that in some way that this could contribute to the West End Summit getting back on track.

Not to get too far off topic, but what is the condition of the WES site? Are they still pumping water out or is it just a big lake?

Still a lake, but it is at a stable level. Palmer still has all the signs and such up for WES.
