He’s involved with some apartment project, but I’m not sure which one.
I’m guessing you are referring to the Jackson Oaks apartment project on Jackson in the old Sara Mayo Clinic. I noticed a resub noticed finally happened on that one so I’m guessing thats happening as well
This building looks SO MUCH better since its been repainted. Also Canal Crossing is adding some nice density especially when you're viewing from the interstate

Seriously who would have thought a simple paint job could do so much for a building . The interiors will look great too.. the hotel opens next month as well!
So the area in my vicinity will be quite different over the next few months:
B Hotel on Canal opens in February!
The Jung is slowly opening things... rooftop bars and pools open later in the spring. The Abita Roast Coffee and Cafe on Canal opens next month. The hotel restaurant opens next month. The staff said they are trying to get a destination chef restaurant for the space on the corner of Canal and Villere. Also a new sports bar restaurant will be built in the corner space on Cleveland and Lasalle. Tulane research has supposedly leased all the commercial space below the garage on Cleveland and Villere. The rooftop signage should go on next month as well!
Abita Roast Cafe and Coffee:
Original bar on second floor
Lobby Lounge
Starting to get sidewalk planters
btw noticed they already are changing some furniture out from when i went there last (good )
One of two rooftop pools and bars
Canal Crossing opens next spring:
Towneplace Suites and Springhill Suites Opening February 18 2018
Great updates! Thanks Tennis! Glad to see NOLA chugging along.
I'll be in town for Mardi Gras if anybody has any small photo update requests lmk
Should be some good vantage points with prades and cranes in background on canal ... otherwise i guess anything you see thats looks interesting ... i never get by the residence inn on st charles
Thanks for all of the updates, Tennis. As always, they are much appreciated.
Great to see that 1031 Canal may actually be moving forward. I’m curious, if Hard Rock is indeed involved, should we expect any changes to the design of the building?

I was wondering this too. The current design is not very Hard Rock looking.

nope they are building basically same design... hard rock does have a few buildings that have that art deco miami look which is basically what this is ... and i think with cranes out there its safe to say this is happening
Someone said to expect apartment announcement from same developer as Hard Rock hotel.. didnt realize Kailas was a part of this as well so Im assuming this is what they were referring to

I wasn't sure which one he was working on, but this sound like it. 207 apartments + parking in that area will be really good. Driving wise, Parkway is kind of right in the middle of the city.

he does have another one the Kailas family owns and that is Jackson Oaks too
Did I miss the fact that The Troubadour hotel is now part of Hilton? I wonder if this is why Canopy is quiet? It left JDV umbrella and joined Hilton's new "Tapestry Collection" in November of 2017.

they quietly changed it a couple months ago and changed chefs for the building too. and no the canopy problem has nothing to do with this... simple flag change... jdv is nice but not a well known brand outside of california so hooking up with hilton is probably bringing more business than JDV
BTW i was really harsh on The Jungs decor but they are changing stuff out and its looking a lot better than before I think
