Sweet. I may drive by it later, I only saw it from afar this morning.

It's called the mechanical penthouse because usually that's where all the heating, ventilation equipment, numerous boilers, water tanks, large ventilation units, etc. are, as well as elevator equipment. Such equipment takes up a larger amount of space than most people would imagine. In larger buildings it often covers the same area as the regular floors.

Looking forward to seeing how the wood and other unfinished surfaces will look.

Came across this project in Edmonton: http://postmediaedmonton.files.wordp.../brentwood.jpg

Reminded me a little of the Fortis project. It would be nice to see a few buildings similar in style to the current project erected in the area to give it a bit of a sense of place. Perhaps some day.

I would've like the top of 351 to look similar to the red building, minus a couple floors of course. Anything other than another glass cube would look ten times better in my opinion.

Those building would be perfect in St. John's. Anyone have several hundred million dollars lying around that we could use to build them?

I've got 20 in my wallet if anyone else wants to chip in

EDIT: I see that the University of Calgary is near this proposal so is it a possibility that this is in Calgary? Or was U. of Alberta mislabeled?

Just spent a week in Calgary, first time I'd spent more than a day or two there in nearly 20 years. Those buildings off Crowchild Trail are quite prominent, with their intense colour. NW Calgary has its share of colourful buildings, none more than the Alberta Children's Hospital. I'd like to post a pic but can't figure out this new Apple jobbie yet.

If you signup for photobucket it's quite easy. You sign up for an account on that, upload a picture and it gives you several ways to share the photo including a link that works here.

Fortis Place

Fortis sent me along copies of this picture and a full-page advertisement that was published in The Telegram. The photo is by Operations Manager Danny Lowe.

^^ Great stuff!!! This project should set a standard that major construction can be achieved within a reasonable timeframe.

Nice to see the topping out photos, thanks for posting those SHH.

The earliest photos of the construction of Fortis Place on the forum seem to be from March 2012 on page 171 of the general thread, but I believe site work started late 2011.

You can also see many of other the projects now complete or almost complete when they were in the early stages.

Wow. It took just as long to reclad TD than it did to build a whole 12-storey office building.
