Greater Downtown Detroit is actually one of the safest downtowns in the country for visitors. While it may not be as "disney-esque" as Chicago, it is comparable to a lot of other midwestern downtowns.

While it still might be considered a work-in-progress there is an energy that you can feel. If you live in Chicago, I would suggest taking a trip to Detroit. It's only a four hour drive along I-94 and you can stay in one of the brand new casino hotels downtown.
Well i now live in Miami, but i was raised in Chicago. I always told my family that we shoulve gone to detroit, and the state itself Michigan, Ive heard it has wonderful beaches. As i said though, one day, I will visit Detroit. THANKS

Detroit is unique in that it has mostly old high-rises dominating the skyline, esp. for a city its size. I was there back in '99 when I stopped to visit relatives. I took many pics around d'town, including a view from 38th floor in the Book Tower (one of my favs). Took pics of the floor, too, which has elevator equipment.

A damn shame that it seemed to be a dying city and yet has all these beautiful bldgs. Outside the fact that the casino industry is coming in, I wonder what other sources of revenue is coming in or is planned?

Can someone tell me what the situation is with the Broderick Tower?

Last I saw there was some work being done around the ground floor, but I'll have another look sometime.

I missed this tour the first time around. Downtown Detroit looks great. I hope things continue to perk up. The city is a real American gem.

are those projects listed on the kraemer website actually believed to still be happening? or are some of those proposed renovations that have snowball's chance in hell?

The Broderick Tower is supposedly still being worked out, but under the current housing market, I think it's hit a bit of a snag.

Yeah, at least for the Broderick, which has been trying to get off the ground for years, I'd put it under a definite "maybe", at the moment.
