There are a couple of examples of the kind of facade retention that you're talking about underway in Toronto right now, but as Innsertnamehere mentions above, the problem with this facade is that the floor heights will not match those of the new building, so it is being taken apart and rebuilt with higher floors, resulting in the same height, but with only 13 floors rather than its current 16.
