The Bell Atlantic Tower (or whatever they're calling it these days) is similarly wide but has a graceful taper and is in fact one of my favorite towers. This is a hulking monsters, and not in a complimentary way.
For a very long time I really didn't like it and even wished it wasn't going to be built, but it has really grown on me as they have added the final touches. For me the outcropping up the west side has made a huge difference in my overall appreciation of the building.

Not just the height but the exterior details added to this building and on the cladding is really what makes it stand out. Some photos posted here show it, others don't, but you really have to see it in person to really appreciate it. From being in different parts of the city and inside various buildings, the exterior cladding gives the impression, depending on light and the angle of your view, a different look. I don't know if the architects intended to do that, but if they did, it's a pretty cool feature. I haven't really noticed that the photos have captured it but I've seen it with my own eyes. And, its presence on East-West axis fits in really well in the overall skyline.

That being said, the real winning feature/benefit is the 4 seasons on top. To be able to go up and grab a drink and/or have dinner and soak in the view will be the crown jewel of this achievement for us skyscraper geeks.

The reflections off of the FMC face make this an especially superb photo shot.

^^ that photo shows what I was talking about earlier with the one "block" looking different than the rest, which I'm assuming is due to the lighting fading out at dawn and in at dusk.

Correct. The material that houses cooling units have venting that darken it at certain angles and in different lighting.

They are "spec" as darker panels than the rest of the panels on the spine irregardless of light or angle.

This tower looks like it was designed in Minecraft.

These photos are spectacular, they should really be used in the city's tourism magazine!

Yeah - they are - but I was referring to only one of the they.

Better a cell phone and usb then to get your inspiration from a trash can imo. I’m looking at you Vinoly and 432 Park ave.

Anyway... is that section of glass on FMC's south side that is off-color ever going to be corrected? I remember people noticing it in the FMC thread a long time ago, and I guess nothing has been done since. It is that strip about 3/4 of the way to the left. Where the crane was anchored in. Sorry for being so off topic for my first post!
