I love brutalism, but can understand why some hate it.

Yeah I do like brutalist architecture. I just do not like the way the confederation centre has done it. As for the other one in retrospect I kinda like it.

I'm a fan of the Confederation Centre. Reminds me of a smaller, squarer version of Ottawa's NAC, which it is pretty much.

Another Calgary Building I cannot stand, Jamison Place. It looks like it was cobbled together out of leftover parts.

It's not a very pretty tower, but the two spires make it goofy enough that I'd be okay with it. It does feel very corporate and unappealing though....it reminds me of a box you'd find in Philly or Houston.

I actually like Jamieson Place. It has an amazing bamboo garden inside with a living green wall. It isn’t a world class piece of architecture but of all the towers from the early 00’s boom it has aged quite well imo. Also it has two things completely lacking in Calgary’s skyline: it has spires and it isn’t a twin.

Yeah I’ve seen pics of the interior and I quite like them, and it looks much better than some of the garbage built in Calgary. But I just think it looks both soulless and goofy at the same time.

Heres a building that hasn’t aged well at all. The Hyatt in Calgary.

Somehow indoor brutalism* offends me less than the exterior, although there are examples of exterior brutalism that I like.

*I absolutely love Bonaventure (metro) station in Montreal; my favorite metro station out of the entire system.

It looks fantastic in a very dystopian way. Even though these are not in Canada the Washington DC metro stations always impressed me, so much better than the shit we have up in Toronto.

The Hyatt is the worst of early 2000’s POMO. The interior is even worse. It could be fixed if they just took down all the awful ‘art’ depicting cowboys, indians, wildlife and oil workers. The preserved walls of the sandstone building the lounge is in are pretty cool though. If only it had room to breathe between all the horrid paintings.

Montreal’s Metro system is a modernist 60’s gem. Such an amazing legacy it left behind including the island it created. Bonaventure is an awesome station. It reminds me of something you’d see in a Ridley Scott movie.

Wow, Here I am knocking Calgary’s pomo Hyatt when I forgot to mention our premiere Pomo hotel, The Cambridge.

Bask in its sickly green colour, reminds you of vomit huh.

It and the Hyatt are tied for shittiest Pomo hotel imo.

Heres an ugly we can all relate to.

The exteriors are bland and beige, the interiors are dated, and don’t even get me started on the food which tastes just about as juicy as the Sahara Dessert, I would actually rather eat sand than eat at Swiss Chalet.

With the exception of the steeple roof it doesn’t look that bad.

The rendering makes it look bland but decent. Since it’s being built in Edmonton though it’s probably going to be all stucco.

You haven’t seen bad until you’ve seen Rotisseries Scores.

Its not really the structure more than it’s that puke green colour and the way it clashes with the entire skyline.
