Now that's some good, thoughtful architecture!

That's very nice. Also, refined rendering for 820 Olive. It uses spandriel glass instead of a curtain wall now, which is dissapointing.

I can't like the photos, but they are on here:

Speaking of digging (or in my case not digging), this is my comment on Blackcat's site:
William • a day ago

What's with any of the words of praise? This design is only getting closer to the design mediocrity of Level. This so-called architectural group impressed me with one one project and that was the Park 5th. design from years ago. As far as I am concerned this dog of a design group is like a "one hit wonder" from the 1960's. Even the "Electric Prunes" had more hits than that!

I like 820 fine. A decent modern tower. The new render gives it much better detail. The usual suspects will hate it...but eh...its good for what it is.

820 is perfect standard infill and sets the stage for the future of downtown.

That Onni tower looks okay, let's not act like it's a master piece of architecture.
There is nothing special about it, the head looks a bit strange, but well it's not an eyesore.

We could choose 10 random glass tower and I am pretty sure that this one wouldn't win the price for the best looking tower.

Still, I am happy that it's going up. The Onni Group is great for L.A., all those tower will have a huge impact on our skyline.

Do you expect every tower to have this out of this world architecture?

Does anyone know if you have to pay to park at the new LA Historic Park? Looking to check it out this weekend.

Well since you have such deep opinions on this, enough to take a shot at a bunch of people, what defines acceptable architecture for a residential tower for you? Have an example of what we should be seeing?

And, it's actually quite convenient to the Chinatown Metro Station---I took the Metro there and it was a breeze.

Whats wrong with mediocrity? 99% of people live, work, and shop in mediocre buildings every day and its fine.

Not every new building has to be an arhitectural masterpiece... if that was the case, every building would take attention away from each other's beauty. Look at NYC for example... iconic skyscrapers surrounded by normal and basic buildings.. as well as San Francisco with the buildings surrounding Transamerica Pyramid and their new Salesforce Tower

Exactly. There's nothing wrong with mediocrity. Most people live mediocre lives. Most people never do or manage to posses something that is truly original. Faced with that reality, you would think more of us would be more kind and understanding in the face of mediocrity.

That brings us to Frank Gehry on the subject. When he received the Asturias Award, a reporter asked him, "How do you answer to those who accuse you of practicing showy architecture?"

Gehry gave the guy the finger and replied:

“Let me tell you one thing. In this world we are living in, 98 percent of everything that is built and designed today is pure s**t. There's no sense of design, no respect for humanity or for anything else. They are damn buildings and that's it. Once in a while, however, there's a small group of people who does something special. Very few. But good god, leave us alone! We are dedicated to our work. I don't ask for work. I don't have a publicist. I'm not waiting for anyone to call me. I work with clients who respect the art of architecture. Therefore, please don't ask questions as stupid as that one."

It is important to note that Gehry is not pretending here to know the difference between mediocre architecture and everything else. Anyone who claims they do would probably also get the finger from Gehry. As Gehry explained later, he was only saying there is big difference between those who try and those who don't try.
