COLUMBUS - Ohio through my (Buck)eyes

I was visiting and staying with a certain florescent rock collector in Pittsburgh the week of 7/17 when he had a meeting in Columbus. He asked if I wanted to ride along. On the way, he dropped me off downtown. I was to meet him at The Ohio State University campus to the north.

The camera does not show this, but it was brutally hot and humid. That's OK, I'll manage. I'm from Texas. I do this all the time.

Let's see if I can make it without melting.

Great photos! Seeing the campus photos makes me kind of wish I could go back in time a decade and enjoy my senior year at OSU one more time!

That was my first White Castle experience. I bet it's really good when you're stoned.

That campus is ridiculously large. Glad you got just enough because I don't feel like I did the place justice. Was getting tired by the time I got there. Truth be told this was probably the hottest day of Ohio's summer. This is normal where I come from, but it's not the norm there.

This was a unique experience. I'd never been dropped in a city that I did not know, with just a look at Google Maps before leaving to get an idea of where I wanted to go. My start and end spots were predetermined and I was on a clock, so I didn't stray too far off course.

The Short North was rather empty, school's out, weekday afternoon and there's a 100-something heat index. But I'm glad it was what I was going through along my course. Hope it's not too long before I can check it out again.

thanks, great pics! I lived in Columbus decades ago when I was young. Don't know if you had a chance to go inside the Ohio Theater, but it's a spectacular, beautifully restored old movie palace. Saw many arts performances there over the years.

So, long story short, I'm actually moving not far from Columbus. This thread has a sequel or two in the plans.

I'll be working mostly out of Springfield. Won't be far from the old mansions on E. High Street.

I'm told downtown Urbana is worth checking out too for architecture.

Urbana is indeed worth checking out. When you get to the area, send me a PM. I don't live far from Springfield.

Limited time and money. Also, I had never been to WC.

Next time, things will be different.

One of the best Columbus threads I have seen in a long time. This city is so overlooked that it is crazy!! I hope to see more in the future. You captured the city really well.

I walked in, pretty much.

The team was practicing on the field, and it was open to spectators. I walked in through the east side where there was some work being done on the concourse. Gate was open, I just walked in for a few shots. The fans could get in on the other (west) side but I didn't walk over there. I'd already gone about three miles in sweltering conditions. Next visit to Cbus, that wasn't an issue!
