SNOWLANDIA l Put A Snowbird On It

The National Weather Service said we'd get 1-3" of snow. The National Weather Service apologized the next day after we got 1' of snow instead.

Until next time.

gorgeous. portland (especially with its copious amount of trees) looks fantastic blanketed in the white stuff.

i love the way a major snowfall can bring a big city to a seeming standstill.

it's just mother nature's way of saying "hey everybody, stop being so fucking busy and check out how beautiful this is".

nice thread title too.

Amazing tour along that super snowy Portland! Very nice streets covered with snow, and very nice white trees too.
Very enjoyable tour. The city looks really pretty after the snowfall.
Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

Great photos. Thanks for documenting this historic snow event.

When I first moved here from the upper Midwest, I used to laugh at how people treated snow storms here, as if it were some sort of apocalypse. Sometimes it's still funny. Today I actually got a message from Amazon saying my package was delayed due to a "natural disaster".

But then I realized the true importance of flat land, salted roads, and plows. The last snow event we got here in PDX left friends of mine with a 6 hour commute from Portland to Beaverton.

The one big surprise to me was that I thought I'd just take the MAX if weather was bad. Nope. Shuts down due to snow and ice gunking it up. Glad I didn't sell my Subaru when I got here.

Incredible beauty tempered by the downed trees and utility damage.

So jealous PDX has been getting so much snow. We've gotten basically nothing here in Seattle, it's been rather lame. It's cold as heck, but no snow. I wonder why that is? You'd think being north we'd have gotten hit too.

I figured Portland would get stick-snow, the kind that just about sticks to every tiny little tree limb, and surface. We usually get it when the temps are close to the freezing mark, and the snow is big and wet. Shovel it up, and stick it in a cone, flavor that shit, and slurp it up.

That kind of snow is good for making snowmen and snowballs too.

If that amount of snow were in any of California's major cities, we'd all die. Great pics!

I have always felt the same way

Cool pics! Some of my friends moved out there and it would be fun to me to be a snow veteran in cities where it rarely happens to this degree.

Now that's funny.

I try to take it with an open mind when Vancouverites complain about the cold to me, as I get its a damp cold, and not what you're used to (you're right, salting, plows, etc help considerably), but when a friend of mine down in Van explained that it has (had?) been a month since the temp rose above 5C, I admittedly found that hard to take as a serious gripe.

That being said, I will melt when the temp hits 40C, especially if any amount of humidity is involved, so us Prairie folk have our Achilles heels as well.

Nevertheless, PDX looks gorgeous blanketed in the snow. Really a stunning and rare treat to see photos of the city like this.

Thank you all, it was a real pleasure being out there in such an amazing winter wonderland. Yesterday, the skies cleared, the sun came out, and I got lucky, so here are a few more photos of Portland in the snow.

Beautiful. In the NWS's defense...forecasting snow in Portland is exceedingly difficult! With the elevation changes, positioning of the city, and trying to guess if the cold air will win at all layers...one of the only places where it is even more difficult to predict is Seattle.

Lovely! It really is beautiful right now. That shot in the second batch of photos of the Vista bridge and the hills is gorgeous.
