This is Winnipeg... we prefer acres of surface parking lots around our bigbox stores. The only exception to this that I am aware of is the Superstore on Portage Ave with part (most?) of its parking underground. It's a great idea for our climate, but cost prohibitive.

^ Superstore was required to do that when the store was originally built. I believe it was because the property was too small.

Interestingly enough, the Chrysler dealer that caused the property to be too small ended up closing and being torn down a few years later. Superstore is probably a little pissed about that one.

The funny thing is though, the way the store is "fronted" is on School Road, rather than Portage itself, which is why that Superstore is a bit "tricky" to navigate when going inside, if you parked on the surface, rather than underground.

They spelled 'Winnipeg' wrong. (Winnepeg)
Nonetheless, its cool to have the date nailed down (nice, mid-week opening).
Note to self: Unless specifically going to IKEA, AVOID Kenaston and Sterling Lyon, starting December 5th!

Yup, that intersection is massive.

With season of tux, and other big box stores, that area is going to be a traffic nightmare.

I can't wait to see how the triple left turn lane system functions when all the lines are worn off by the plows and sands of winter. Not sure I want to be the car in the middle turning lane.

Calgary has an instance of triple left-turn lanes located downtown, with certain lanes guiding you toward very specific (and divergent) destinations/directions within a very short distance! If you're familiar with the roads/intersections, you just have to be careful to select your driving lane strategically, esp. during rush hour(s) or you may end up needing to reroute (Good thing for GPS! ) I think the locals do ok to navigate, even after the winter wear!

Looking forward to see this project in its entirety!

Was driving by the IKEA for the first time in a few weeks, turned left onto Sterling Lyon, and noticed that the steel structure for the Cabelas is well underway. I also noticed some piles going in near the roadway for another building. Phase 1 of Seasons is definitely moving along quite fast...

Would anyone be adverse to changing the title of this thread to: "Winnipeg IKEA / Seasons of Tuxedo Regional Shopping Centre (U/C)"?

I drove through on S.L for the first time today as well. I was equally as surprised to see that it wasn't only IKEA but multiple other retailers as well. The footprint for this development is almost overwhelming. It is the size of a small neighbourhood.

so im assuming season of tuxedo when all is said and done will include

ikea
lowes
cabellas
hotel -- possible waterpark
h&m
a new restaurant franchise maybe a sammy j peppers or cactus club
armani exchange
victoria secret

like they wanna make it unique and a go to destination spot for tourist so its gonna be different i wouldnt surprised if they went towards an indoor ammusement park water park concept ... with some retail included.. but mostly a touristy place..

Closest to Sterling Lyon will be a Shell C-Store/gas station and Mr Lube. In the back lining up with Ikea you can see the first of a, "big box run" building (big box strip mall). I think it will contain 3 retailers but i don't know who they are yet. The Cabela's is underway in the back south-western edge and the Lowes will go on the western edge nearest to Sterling Lyon. It is my understanding that most of the "new to Winnipeg" stores will be on the Phase 2 portion on the North side of Sterling Lyon.

So just because Polo Park has one, Season's isn't going to get one? If that were the case, KP, SVC, GP, etc. wouldn't exist.

Victoria's Secret is VERY picky about picking a spot to do business in.

They took so long to get to Polo Park because they wanted to be next to the right retailers. Even with potential vacancies they didn't want to be next to lower end retailers.

Unless SoT starts completely occupied and filled with high end retailers, I doubt that we will see Victoria's Secret as a part of the initial list of retailers.

One nice thing about Shindico is they put their 'site plan' brochures online, and declare confirmed tenants and where they are going in. It sure would be nice to see such a thing for Seasons of Tuxedo...

Looks like they finish all the walls around IKEA

Right now, Transit service is poor to the area

Right now only the 78 Crosstown West (Kenaston Leg) services the area.
Their is a stop on Kenaston / Sterling Lyon for Southbound service.
However going Northbound you will have to cross Kenaston.

The 78 Kenaston legs only runs til 7pm Monday to Saturday.
There is no service after 7pm, or on Sunday.
Service runs about every 40 minutes.
