Renovations are underway in downtown Houston for 1001 McKinney and the Esperson Building.

It's called classic architecture. Retro. Throw-back.

I happen to like it very much. It is common in Frisco, McKinney, and Prosper to build high schools with this type of architecture. Modern architecture in high schools
is not as common, but is still applied in new construction.

Just drove by Energy Center III and didn't see anything lit up on the west side of the building.

I like these two. Boyd looks like the proposed Klein school. It all gives me a greater appreciation for HSPVA's new building.

Interesting choice of words, but it doesn't look half bad. That thing with the spikes and the colonial bell tower that they want to build near CityCentre looks even more like throw-up.

Heh.. Pretty sure he meant throw up as in put up/build another high-rise on site. Is that colonial thing still happening? For some reason I was thinking/hoping that proposal was replaced by the recent citycentre expansion.

Yep, as in planned to go up. I like the design of this building better than everything else already in the MC area.

I was looking at some old photos from the buildings that were built before the internet age and I was wondering if anyone knew why buildings do not seem to be built with the steel frame technique like more of the older skyscrapers.

i forget the reasoning.. we talked about it a bit in the Phillips 66 HQ thread over on HAIF since those high-rises are metal framed structures.

I am loving the height of this building. Is there a rendering for this building? Also, how far is this from Skyhouse River Oaks?

I simply didn't feel like doing a simple Google search...but I'm glad you fulfilled most of my request in my post. Thanks! It's a gorgeous building.

And now we know why all the new hotel proposals...

From BisNow:

"Source Strategies Inc president Bruce Walker, who gave a market overview, says that as of Q2, the Houston market’s occupancy is 73.6%, and RevPAR is $89.45, up over 9% for the year. Both are very healthy numbers, and room nights sold went up 5% in the second quarter, a “monumentally high number.” Since 2010, Houston’s seen slow supply growth—roughly 1% a year, so Houston’s not oversupplied with rooms right now."

Those are huge numbers. I don't recall Houston doing better than the mid-60s on occupancy - ever. Only New York and Las Vegas have those kinds of numbers.
