It's BEEN happening (unless I'm misunderstanding what you're asking):

Understandable, given that there are so many to keep track of these days. Not that I'm complaining about that.

They are doing a lot of cutting with saws and torches from a lift on the market street facade. I think that the only reason that wall hasn't come down yet. I'm not sure why so much of that cladding has to be carefully removed but thats what they are doing. They have been working on it for a week or more.

I hope something starts to happen with the building at corner of 11th and market by the time this project is done. The building is a disgrace and aside from CVS its basically dead space over there. The owner should be embarrassed.

Jenel Management Corp out of NYC owns the place and I doubt they even know about the existence of East Market. However, the entire building is being used (CVS, Marshall's, Friere Charter Middle School). Also, the VP of SSH, who is part of the crew doing East Market, is on the board of Friere Charter School.

The last time I went by the site they had leveled part of the Market Street facade.

And so Snellenburg's bites the dust.

I can only imagine that the infuriatingly slow pace of removal of this urban scar of a street face is to allow for the surgical removal and recycling of the bronze crown panels and granite facade slabs.

Despite the inexpressibly deep hatred I feel for this soon-to-be ex-building, I admit that the materials used on the exterior held up well over 40+ years.

That just rubs salt in the wound as far as I'm concerned: the original developer seems to have been thinking, subconsciously at least, "yes, Philly, I say a giant fuck you with this ugly building . . . but for added spite I will express my contempt for this city by using good, durable, low maintenance materials . . . and revel in the utter senselessness of it.":

At least when a sleazy thoughtless developer makes a dryvit building, we know the degradation of that cheap facade will hasten the eventual fate of the building. But in this case, the not inexpensive facade materials had, up tho this winter, left us with a lasting monument to the nadir of Philadelphia's economic an architectural existence.

Newb here. Does anyone know if there's a webcam for this project? Maybe someone with far more knowledge about these things than me (summer maybe?) could put together a list of webcams for the vast number of projects going on in the city. Not sure how many have webcams available but I know there are some out there.
