Article states that it will be a 500 feet tall. For comparison the Fred Hartman Bridge to Baytown is only 180 feet. Landmark for the far eastside?

This bridge will be over 500 feet, quite a beast. (The Baytown Fred Hartman bridge to Baytown is actually over 400' to the top of the structure, not 180' - the clearance over the water)

The point of the comparison is gauging visibilty of the new bridge from downtown, med center, etc. A useful comparison is Memorial Hermann on I-10 (with the blue crown) which is exactly 500 feet tall but also a little closer to Downtown.

The new bridge will be about 12 miles from Downtown (as the crow flies) vs 21 for Fred Hartman. Without doubt it will be the more prominent landmark when viewed from points west.

Exclusive: Greenway Plaza mixed-use to include office tower, high-end residential

The Ro, a mixed-use project that's being developed by Transwestern Development Co. and Spear Street Capital, will likely contain a mid-rise residential development, an office building and retail, Spear Street's CEO John Grassi told the Houston Business Journal.

The Ro will be built on 16.88 acres at 3120 Buffalo Speedway – the site of a former Exxon Mobil campus on Buffalo Speedway – just half a block away from Greenway Plaza and a few blocks away from River Oaks. Though details are still being worked out, The Ro will likely contain an office building that'll offer roughly between 250,000 and 300,000 square feet. The bulk of the project will be residential, Grassi said. The multifamily component might be anywhere from eight to 12 stories tall, Grassi said, though specifics are still being hammered out.

Regarding the office building, Grassi said Spear Street and Transwestern received a phone call from an office tenant looking for around 125,000 square feet in the River Oaks area.

"The office stock in that part of Houston ... is fairly old," Grassi said. "It's just older real estate. People will respond to something brand new (and) creative."

The office building in The Ro will likely offer signage rights, he said. The project will break ground in 2019. A delivery date hasn't been announced.

The '180 figure is likely for the clearance height over the water. While the bridge itself is taller, the newer bridge's deck height will actually be shorter than the Fred Hartman Bridge, which has a '262 clearance.

Did you get that backwards? I think the Fred Hartman Bridge has a 180 foot clearance.

EDIT: After further inquiry, it appears Fred Hartman actually has 175' feet clearance, based on Mean High Water. The existing Sam Houston Tollway Ship Channel Bridge also has 175' clearance. My understanding is the new bridge(s) will also have 175' clearance.

Houston developer begins construction on Museum District condo project

Construction has begun on a 37-unit mid-rise condominium project in the Museum District.

After preselling more than 50 percent of the condos, Houston-based Surge Homes secured construction financing through the Houston office of Dallas-based PlainsCapital Bank to build Museum Blvd, according to a press release. Construction began in May on the $12 million project, which is expected to be completed fall 2019, a spokesperson said.
