But one thing is for sure, we the Manchester forum members, should all be very excited by this redevelopment of the GNW.

Last board shows the 2nd round changes that have been made to the square

Model.

Dean Street. Short for Deansgate.

New public square. 2nd round changes on the left.

The Great Northern Warehouse will once again sit in splendid isolation. Everything that is currently fixed to it externally will go. The car park ramps, the building next to the car park ramps, the metal structure on the corner of Quay Street and Deansgate, etc. The lot! The mini Ampitheatre will be turned into mini reservoir that will harvest rain water which will be used across the buildings.

The 1st phase of the redevelopment is the square at the front of the warehouse. Planning Application to be submitted in September. Work to start early 2018. The current

Think the next phase is the apartments.(or Dean Street) This will include the middle of the top floor being made into a atrium garden for the residents, with a glazed roof. Access to the apartments for the residents will be through the front of the warehouse via the new Square. Once the Aprtments are finished, that access through the warehouse from the Square will be closed to the public.

The next phase will be Dean Street and the High Line. Dean Street will be modelled on Carnaby Street in London. Full of some of the best indie restaurant and bars operators. Other uses for the Dean Street are also being looked at like indie clothes, art and craft shops.

The developer is already in Talks with Nick Johnson and Jen Thompson behind http://www.altrinchammarket.co.uk and the soon to be opened Mackie Mayor building in the NQ, as a similar concept. http://altrincham.today/2017/08/17/t...re-next-month/

At the back of the building will be the 'High Line'.

This will be open to residents and the general public. What the High Line will include and incorporate is still being looked at and worked on by the developer.

The final phase will be the tower/s. All options on this are still being considered. Public consultations regarding what type of tower people prefer have already taken place. The developer is leaning towards a garden/green - towers/s similar to the Bosch Verticale Milan, and other green towers around the World.

Architects such as Simpson and Haugh and Will Allsop are working on the Great Northern Warehouse redevelopment.

The redevelopment of the Great Northern Warehouse is backed by a billionaire Hong Kong based property developer. The funding is in place. The redevelopment of the Great Northern Warehouse is planned to take between 5-10 years, but the developer is keen to reduce that time frame.

The developer has asked a group from SSC Manchester to come to the next public consultation to give our views and ideas on their updated proposals andplans for the Great Northern Warehouse redevelopment, including the tower/s.

Plans for major expansion to Manchester Piccadilly rail station including large numbers of apartments and commercial space. This is the busiest rail station in Manchester, currently with around 27m passengers annually which is expected to increase to over 50m by 2035 as the High Speed rail network linking numerous English cities is constructed over the next decade and local rail/tram links developed further.

Basic information
  • Status: Pre-Planning

  • Nearest transport: Piccadilly

  • Address: Piccadilly Station, Piccadilly, Manchester M3

Detailed information
  • Office space: 2,881,499 sqft

  • Retail space: 273,134 sqft

  • Number of apartments: 5,000

  • Hotel rooms: 250

  • Developer: Various

Plans have been released for the redevelopment of Piccadilly station and the area surrounding it ahead of HS2 and the arrival of Northern Powerhouse Rail.

The plans include integrating Metrolink and Northern Powerhouse Rail into an underground alignment with provision for eastward expansion of Metrolink, combined with a redeveloped Piccadilly station and millions of square foot of commercial, residential, hotel and retail floorspace in the surrounding area.

The arches underneath the station will be opened up for retail and restaurants

A brand new 'internal street' will link the existing station with the HS2 station, while escalators will link this concourse with Metrolink and NP Rail underground

Work continuing on the Sir Henry Royce Institute.

This is based at the University of Manchester and will join the neighbouring National Graphene Research Institute which you can see in the pics to form the HQ of a large Advanced Materials Research Institute also involving several other UK universities including Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College London.

A quick update with pics of the ongoing $1.4bn Manchester Airport expansion.

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co...evamp-14469176

Manchester Airport currently handles around 28m passengers per year, with numbers having grown substantially in recent years. This expansion will see capacity increased to over 50m per year which should allow for significant growth over the next couple of decades. It doesn't just serve Manchester, it's the major international gateway for much of Northern England and the biggest UK airport outside London. Current passenger numbers have it at #14 in the EU for total passenger numbers and #13 for passengers traveling beyond the EU.

2016 passenger figures.

Good Lord! A serious building frenzy in this town! Rather noisy too. Next time I go, I bet I won't recognize it.

Height of the under-construction soon to be tallest building in Manchester at Dean's gate Square is now thought to have passed the 164m/538ft of the current tallest, Beetham Tower.

Another 37m to go until it tops out at 201m/659ft.
