RTKL's design is ok, but really doesn't inspire me with awe... and I think looks kind of clunky and ill-proportioned from the postcard viewpoint.

I am biased, but I'll take this as the winner:

None of the other designs really start to push the skyscraper in any sort of new direction. The structural expression and continuity, subtleness of the shape of the building, and (even though not easily seen here) the way the large retail base building is integrated with the site/subway/tower all make it stand out for me. This tower is like an engineer's wet dream. I mean, come on... its a Michell's truss applied to a skyscraper!!

I don't know what is taking so long to pick a winner for this competition.

Very interesting designs, but I like the way this one plays with the others...

It also reminds me of Hong Kong's Union Square

Although I suppose it may be obvious since there is a total lack of any news on this project... a little birdie told me that the competition winner has STILL not been decided. Figured I'd give you guys the heads up.

This is hella not sexy i think china has so many projects in mind that architects just make some straight lines or squigilly ones and call it a building

and some of these designs arent that great architects have lost inspiration

and i see an extra building there i see the jin mao tower, new proposal, the shanghai int. finance center and another one all the way in the right

anybody know what building that is?!?! or is it a new proposal also
it seems to be quite tall

KPF's is defantly my favorite, unique but it dosnt say HEY LOOK AT ME!! (which I hate) The tower really compliments the skyline and completes it.

This one also comes in a close 2nd place. Its so simple but Intresting. I love how it completes the top three, imagine thw SWFC completed in this pic, amazing!

?! What the hell are you talking about? Do you know how fast Shanghai is growing? This is not Dubai, this is Shanghai.

Still no news no this? The competition should have been finished by now, and they should be moving on to contractors for the building. Does anyone know who won?

I think this one is the best one of these towers because it's a design never thought of.
(From the bottom it looks like a spaceship)

Was this competition just a tease, or do they plan on building one of the proposals?

^I don't think so. It will happen, but I really don't know if there is a need for it at the moment. There is so much vacant office space in Lujiazui right now that it seems foolish to go ahead with this project. I imagine it will probably start closer to or after the 2010 Expo. Investors would be wise to see what the office absorption rate is after Shanghai loosens it's reigns on foreign private business ownership. Besides, there is a great rooftop restaurant with insanely cheap prices that sits on the lot. I quite enjoy sipping a $3.00 big bottle of Carlsberg between my friends the Jin Mao and SWFC.

Here's a picture of my uncle doing just that..

I seriously cant stand people like you who say "why build more towers when we cant fill the ones we have" Well, to answer that, we arnt building for today, we are building for tomorrow, and since China is like a family of hamsters and they are spitting out people left and right, these uge towers will be needed in the next 10 to 20 years.
