I do wonder if the excessive amounts of parking is dictated by code requirements?

New Restaurant

So... Not everything makes it into the area's 3 publications (PL, CPBJ, an The Burg)

I love where I live. Downtown will be getting 2 new restaurants in the next 2 months.

First Elementary Coffee expands out of the BSM into a physical location into a pair of buildings that are getting a full renovation after being condemned for a decade.

https://theburgnews.com/food/surroun...ation-new-home

The second has yet to have an article written, but will move into the empty restaurant space on the Corner of North and 2nd. He was before HARB to get some necessary approvals this month and said the restaurant would be a Chinese/Japanese fusion with a Western slant.

New Renders for Harrisburg Universities tower.

Now totaling 17 stories. I would have loved the original 36 story (~450') proposal, but this is a very decent bit of infill.

^ Interesting...the white really stands out from the surroundings. Could be OK. It looks like the most attention was given to the main entrance and the mid-level roof deck in that rendering. I'm not really sold yet on how the bottom half transitions to the top half. But definitely a big chunk of infill still, and will be fun to see it go up.

If anyone on here remembers the old Tracey Manor proposal? (Its buried somewhere in this forum).

photo of old project stolen from first page

A version of the project is back alive.

Last night at the HARB meeting (architectural review board) The owners of the building brought their updated plans. The condo tower is no longer in the plans and they have nixed the office condos as well.

Going with the growing trend in Harrisburg of converting office space into residential apartments, the remainder of the building that was originally planned to be office condos will now be 13 moderately sized apartments (~700-900sf).

I forgot the renderings at home, but I'll post a few photos later.

A project that is nearing completion came back before HARB Monday night. The first floor of 254 North St. will house Elementary Coffee's first physical location. (They operate a location at the Broad Street Market).

For reference, the before photo.

I was not a big fan of this design but it has grown with me. My biggest dislike was the mostly faceless western orientation of the building.

I then realized it does border a parking garage, and therefore the main orientation of the building had to be designed in a way that would allow another building to be constructed adjacent.

I heard the owner of the garage wasn't being all that accommodating with construction plans.

Very strange and sudden, a few hours prior to the announcement they were posting the daily specials. I had a bad experience once many years ago and never went back but it was a cool place and a downtown fixture, will be interesting to see what happens next:

The restaurant is closed indefinitely. Thank you for your patronage. It has been listed for sale with Bo Mangam of Landmark Commercial Realty Inc.

I was driving across the South Bridge the other day and noticed a tower crane. Can anyone confirm, if this is being used at the new Federal Courthouse Building site. From my vantage point, it looked like the crane was on the fringe of Midtown, which would correspond to 6th and Reily Streets.

Thanks! At 223 feet, the new Federal Courthouse should stand out quite a bit at that location.

Five-story apartment building planned for Harrisburg

GreenWorks Development plans to build a mixed-use commercial and residential development on a parking lot at 320 Reily St. that is currently being used as a temporary parking lot for the midtown campus of HACC.

https://www.pennlive.com/life/2019/0...arrisburg.html

kinda excited this will be 5 stories, It will continue to add verticality to the local neighborhood, with the 1500 Condominiums and Fed Courthouse a block away

Here are some photos I took of the Federal Courthouse project on November 17, 2019. The project has been moving along quickly. The structure definitely increases the profile of the city skyline when entering the downtown SB along North 7th Street (photo of the structure entering this way was not taken). Attempted to take photos from different angles, although all were taken around dusk, so they are not the best quality. Looking forward to seeing this project completed!
