Yeah I just had a meeting there with the fire department, they aren't going anywhere any time soon. Lots of planned needed to shut down an active fire station in the middle of a massive CBD...

Interesting. I was just say "Deco," but I'm a bit of a layperson.

I thought in the proposal that it would be built in stages so that the old part of the station would stay open while the build the new one (and office above). At least that's what I recall from the pdf's and my alderman's email.

This is very relevant to me as I'm 1 block away. On the one hand I'm glad it'll be a slow process as I enjoy my sliver of the Sears Tower, but on the other hand a decent glass tower will block some of the RN beige AMLI and provide some floor retail space.

The new station next door has to be completed before the old one can come down. Then, and only then, can work on the office tower start. And they definitely need an anchor tenant on the hook.

That's a rather unusual interpretation; I don't see any Egyptian elements. The landmark report calls it French-influenced. Primarily, I'd consider it an example of "catalog-order ornament" hung on an older building whose front was removed for the widening of LaSalle.

Let me mention again the new book Art Deco Chicago.

^ I got that book for Christmas and it is SO good. 350 pages. Very thorough and seemingly limitless facts about our beloved Deco gems.

East Ontario - hotel

Although I did like the prior ~50 story proposal, this would finally fill the lot years (decades even?) after they demolished the prior lowrise buildings.

I would rather see this

.... that current design is way to squat for that site... would rather see it empty for a taller project to come around...

The Mill(I'm excited to see how River West and the West Loop eventually merge into an extention of the CBD core just like how Streeterville and the South Loop have) :

Regarding the Ontario proposal, I'll take anything at this point.

It's pitiful--shameful, actually, that the owners of that lot couldn't get anything off the ground despite the fact that lots further east of the Mag Mile saw development, and we have been seeing record tourism for years amidst a prolonged economic boom and low interest rates.

I normally wouldn't be so harsh, but those assholes demo'd historic building stock for no reason.

So either build this thing or move your loser asses out of the way so that a more competent developer can step in and get the job done.

Probably the aldermans fault, cant wait til they are less powerful to deny projects or hopefully even powerless in a few months.

It would make a pretty fantastic single family home ...

I find Renelle so disappointing. Compared to its neighbors, it seems so short. I know not every building is going to break 1000ft, but it's pretty pitiful. It
also doesn't particularly stand out color-wise with it's light colored neighbors.

The latest plans for that lot are a mall with a tower of unknown height above it.
I wouldn't expect a supertall there, or really anything north of 500 feet, with the current owner.
