The crane is being brought down and one can now enjoy unencumbered views of this little gem in Ottawa's skyline.

There are balconies there...

Every time I've looked at this place I've thought "no balconies, crazy." I should have looked closer because there are plenty of them.

... and then you see a prime example of ugly-a** ottawa "density" on the street behind with three equally ugly, 10-12 stories, lot-to-lot buildings, one right next to the other. BEURK!

Now that's what I call a "midsized ottawa canyon" aka children killer.

I respectfully disagree; the Merit is what will kill the children, not the heritage Commi blocks.

I like this building, but I'm disappointed that they left the surface parking lot like that. It would have been nicer if they build it right up to the corner.

Is this building supposed to have this lot, or are they planning something else for it? Or is this for the older building behind it?

I like the view of the Merit you have from the alley in between city hall and the back of the courthouse. It's quite spectacular.

That is a good view. I like it from most views actually, I'm glad we have this building.

But that parking lot with the aerial view I'm not too keen on.

The parking lots are on other properties not belonging to this development.

The parking lots are a real eyesore...especially for the side units up to the 6th floor worth close to $1M

What's next for Charlesfort?

I believe the Continental is sold out and the Merit is now topped off. I assume the Merit is not yet sold out and new condo sales in general are starting to slow. Given other condo developers have been busy getting many approvals (Claridge 6+, Richcraft 6+, Ashcroft 6+, Minto 4) Charlesfort has been silent for what there next project might be.

Are they waiting to see what the market is doing. I think the CIBC at Preston and Carling would make a great location for Charlesfort's next project given the known future projects in that area.

Any thoughts?

An 60 storey Art Deco building with a modern twist would look good down there to give the tomorrow's Carling station area some variety.

There was some talk of a potential Charlesfort property in Centretown. Perhaps we'll see more once the CDP appeals are resolved.

The shape of the Merit makes me think that Charlesfort may have contemplated a future twin/complementary tower immediately to the south of the Merit. I wonder?

I wonder who has the corner penthouse?

It's reminding me of the real spook central more and more every day.

Toss a couple of gargoyles on there and we'd have a set for the new Ghostbusters movie.
