If a picture were worth a thousand words...

I thought it might be an interesting challenge for people to pick one picture (preferable of their own taking) that they feel describes their city or hometown. Obviously it's impossible to portray an entire city with just one shot, so maybe just portray one unique aspect of where you live. There's just two rules:

1. One picture per person, with a small explanation perhaps.

2. Avoid panoramic skylines.

I'll start:

The Village of Romeo, Michigan.

There's much more to the town than this, but when I think of Romeo, I think of dirt roads and seclusion. When the population of cows outnumbers that of humans, it's hard not to.

I think Romeo is a decent-sized village with a nice little downtown. While it is sort of in the "middle of nowhere" farmland, its location near the urban fringe of Metro Detroit means that it's only a 15-20 minute drive from the amenities of Northern Oakland/Macomb.

Here's a picture from Flickr:

I will occasionally browse through flickr at pics, of or in, Tulsa, and save ones that catch my eye. May have to make a thread one day. But I looked through them and if there was only one that captures the essence of Tulsa more than any other, its this one lol.

We may be the little red headed step child among the cities. Or not the most glamorous city at the ball. But ya know what.... We still havin fun lol.

Tuscaloosa, Alabama; these two pretty much describe the city, Deep South culture and Alabama football

I took a shot today in Chicago that encapsulates my perception of the city quite well. The picture is demonstrative of Chicago's skyscraper/low-rise, urban/suburban dichotomies:

Barton Springs Pool is pretty much the heart and soul of Austin and we've had a bit of a construction boom lately. This photo captures a little of both.

That's quite the juxtaposition.
