St. Petersburg //second city of russia

St. Petersburg was a nice city to visit, but it felt a bit small for a city of its size. Enjoy!

-"It felt a bit small for a city of its size."-

Love the expression, understandable yet confusing.

Always love a new Sabotai thread. Gorgeous city of course - I'm curious as to what about it felt small though?

Maybe it was how many people were on the streets and the general scale of centrally located public areas. I'd say it feels similar to and a little bit larger than Stockholm, which has ~1/3 as many people.

Beautiful pics. I didn't expect so many signs to also be in English (except for the McDonalds advert), how common is that throughout the city, or is that only in the tourist-oriented neighborhoods?

There are words in English and things written in Latin script on trendy commercial places, but going inside them, you'll see almost no English, at least not English that is meant to be read by English speakers.

I actually didn't get to ride the metro as the center is fairly compact and walkable.

I also didn't go inside the Hermitage. For the most part, I find the art feels generic and interchangeable in most of these types of museums, so I usually skip them.

Generally, in these older historic cities, there's a new modern part with high-rises outside the city center. Does St. Petersburg have this?

Sometimes people find it very surprising that cities like Boston, NY and Montreal are older than St. Petersburg.
