Just seen an ###-XAA series plate, and figured that within the year, a new set of plate coding will come out. I was issued an LHL plate in January 2009, and now we are in the X's.
Therefore, I am curious as to what ICBC's plan will be in the future when the next series plates run out. It could be AAAA-000 like Ontario, or AAA-0000 like Quebec. I think those are the only two options.
And wouldn't it be neat if the Olympic type plates became the main ones? I find the current ones somewhat bland, especially since they've been present since 1985. Guess we'll see what happens.
why not like Albertas? they'res is random like Californias. I like those. If we copied Ontarios, then there would be little to tell the two license plates apart.
And I also think we need to drop the Beautiful and just have it say british columbia. Maybe on the bottom put Beautiful or something, but the writing is waaay to small and the font is too blah

Maybe "the best place on earth" could get put on the license plate. Although that may offend people who aren't BC locals when they see a BC plate in their province/state.
I think there is a bad assumption in this thread: that the plates are given out in alphabetical order. I was issued MDG in 2008. How do you reconcile this with the fact that go_leafs got LHL in 2009?
Also, aren't almost all of the older letters-first plates available for re-issuing by now? i.e. AAA-000 format as was exclusively used in the 60's through 90's.
Anyway, it's not an intractable problem. The next step will be to intersperse letters and numbers, like our postal codes. Then the next step after that would be to replace the dash with a seventh letter, as done in California. Seven letters would probably last us until the extinction of the automobile.

M** series plates are Olympic plates, Therefore, you won't see a single L Olympic plate, nor a standard M plate.
With the AAA-000 format there are 17, 558, 424 possible combos. With the addition of the 000-AAA that brings us to 35,116,848 possible plates. We should be good for a while.

Also explains that I am wrong. My bad. I thought they were going straight through AAA to ZZZ, instead they go through Letters in a different way, which I can't explain by typing, but an explanation on that link should explain things.
They definitely should use the Olympic plates as the template, perhaps without the inukshuk insignia? And replace "Best place on earth" with "Beautiful British Columbia" at the top.
