Me too, since I, along with several other individuals, was responsible for the architectural design in Brad's proposal to PDC.
Excellent work.

What's frustrating is that the absurd length and manner of the process of selecting the developer, has severely hampered the project's ability to be financially viable. Regardless of the choice of master developer. The window of financial opportunity to achieve the projects stated goals is closing.
This definitely seems like a case of the Portland Process run amok. From the get-go. Hopefully it will turn out well, one way or another... someday.
It's kind of ironic that the PDC rejected Beam due to questions of "financial viability"...

There's a sign up at the site for this one. "Coming Spring 2008". Construction must be just around the corner.

I stumbled past there on my way home from Doug Fir last Saturday and noticed that sign as well. I'm more excited about this building than any other building going up/proposed in the rest of town. It would be nice to see something as thoughtfully designed as this on a larger scale in the middle of downtown.

I'm curious if the city will allow the arcade over the sidewalk. If they do allow it they should push for it in all new developments along E Burnside. The arcades on the older buildings are so unique (to Portland), and the pedestrian scale would go well with the couplet project also.

"looks like the 'shipping containers' building" da man

"Is this one the crossword puzzle building?" James Bond Agent 007

Interesting, irreverent comments. Tongue in cheek I expect. There's something really nice about that design's appearance. It looks light, open, and balanced, even a little graceful. Not directly related, but I just wanted to mention the splendid article and picture in yesterday's NYTimes about Louis Kahn's Yale University Art Gallery.

I'm not claiming to know or understand the range of architectural genres very well, but I guess this is a pretty well agreed upon great example of modernism. It sure seems beautiful to me, and it seems like the Bside6 has some of that same beauty.

Yeah I like it too. But it does look like a crossword puzzle.

there was a developer or architect that was building a series of building in the central eastside and was using industrial elements as their inspiration. One building was literally designed based on the styles of stacked shipping containers. The renderings and inspirations pictures were posted here some time ago. This building looks like it was based on the shipping container model, however I don't know if this was the developer/architect who was using those industrial inspirations.

Gorgeous building. Wish it was in a better neighborhood, though. Would love to see this type of building in the NW 23rd area, maybe north of Thurman ...

Perhaps it would have been more accurate if I has written. "Mark is uncharacteristically correct about the speed limit, too bad he is so often mistaken about other things"

There is actually a historic city code that allows for these sidewalk arcades along that part of E Burnside. The reason for not pulling out more was because the city would then require beams to be put up for "support."

For sure it does. Another place just opened right across the future B6 called Rontoms. It's a sweet spot for conversation and some drinks. The area is going amazing in 5 years.

With the Plaid Pantry in the lot directly west of this project I wonder if their (B6) view of downtown Portland is protected from any future development on that parcel?
