seems to me Planning is abandoning all principles for the sake of this developer. If the councillor's not involved then someone's gone crazy.

the councillor is not personally involved in parking variances as far as I know. the builder applies, the notice goes up, if no one complains, then it gets approved based on staff recommendation.
The plans on the developer's website shows parking pads all along the front. No lawn, just like The Corktowns.

I've represented the Beasley Neighbourhood Association on this development. BNA is very happy with this development, we filed a letter of support to the City.

The parking is planned by the developer for the rear of the homes, accessed by the alley.

The City is requiring a setback for future road-widening of Wilson Street to six lanes. This stalled the development for the past few months as we've fought over it and some other conditions the City was trying to impose.

All conditions, except the road widening, have been formally resolved. We expect the road-widening to be resolved this fall when the development gets it final planning approvals.

As BNA rep on this file, I can see the new GM Jason Thorne has been a huge breath of fresh perspective at City Hall. Things have progressed well since May.

It was educational experience being involved in the planning process as a neighbourhood representative.

We were very fortuante to have the developer as the party pushing for the neighbourhood association to be in all meetings, including the development review.

well this is very good news and clears up most of my concerns. Subject to any variances that might be sprung in later stages. I hope the BNA made its approval contingent on plans staying materially the same.

That is good to know. Perhaps you can communicate to the developer to update/clarify the development site. The site plan identifies the area behind the development as a rear yard, and appears to have parking pads placed in front of the units, which is what he had done with The Corktowns.

It appears like all the units have been sold. All the MLS listings are down and when walking by today there's "SOLD" signs over all the posters and a new sign saying "TO BE BUILT". I imagine development will start in the spring?

All units sold out BEFORE construction even starts... in Beasley? Well then.

This section could use this. Traffic is a bit fast in this stretch along Wilson.

So many small lots around the core that could host this kind of development.

Comments like this in the West Harbour GO thread aren't helping.

The entire area north of king william is already a giant parking lot. What more do they want.

The GO station is adding hundreds of parking spots, not to mention bayfront park has a giant parking lot rarely ever full.

So ridiculous. Hamilton is the easiest and cheapest city to park in that I've ever seen. Most of the time I manage to find free street parking so I don't have to give any money to the speculators sitting on empty lots. Is the city parking garage on York ever even close to full?

There is a wait list for all monthly parking lots owned by the city. However Impark has no waiting list for many of their lots.

Parking is really cheap in Hamilton. When I was working in downtown Oshawa, it cost me $110 a month to park. Whereas in Hamilton its costing me $70 a month.
