Space Shuttle Discovery flying over Washington, DC

This morning, NASA flew the shuttle Discovery to Dulles Airport, where it will join the collection at the National Air and Space Museum's Dulles annex. They took the opportunity to do a couple of flybys over the city on the way, as a sort of PR stunt.

I was in my 9th floor office in Arlington, but managed to get some decent pictures through the windows. Here they are.

Starting with one of the shuttle over the US Capitol. Yes, I can see the Capitol from my window.

Great photos. I work immediately off of Independence Avenue but I wasn't able to see the shuttle this morning because I was out in Tysons for a meeting until noon.

Sweet shots dude! I want your office location. I was able to see the shuttle land at Dulles from my office. It totally interupted my division's meeting. The whole floor kept running from one side of the building to the other to watch the plane as it flew in circles.

Saw it in Fairfax during my lunch break. Everyone ran out of the building and was taking videos with cell phones. It was really quite a scene.

Awesome!

Had the pleasure of seeing that bird on top of the other bird once in person, still a marvel.

Some great shots there Cirrus. It was an inspiring sight. I also enjoyed seeing all the folks clustered on top of their buildings to watch the show.

very historic.

thee final flight of the space shuttle.

the end of the 70s era vision of spaceflight.

the present is commercial spaceflight, the iss and satellites.

the near future will be going back to the moon and visiting asteroids.

the future is mars and ???

i saw this news on a brief tv clip, but like your photos much better --- thx for sharing those shots with us
