Agreed. I thought the angle profile looked awkward in the first renderings but in person it is flat out amazing.

I'm not going to hold it against Brookfield for being a simply or boxy design. It does mean that even the smallest details mean so much more. I don't think the taper is at it's very best. It's on the weak end. The curtainwall grid isn't handled very well in the tapering corners either and let's not forget the crown.

That's true. I like it more in this photo than in older updates.

That Ryerson student residence looks stunning. I can definitely see similarities to our new library.

If you ignore the fact it keeps cracking, the glazing is top notch looking. Probably the nicest curtainwall in the city. The watered down taper does detract a bit from how it looked in the initial renderings. At first I was worried about the loss of the shadow boxes but it honestly looks better now than those renderings. I showed my wife a picture I took of Brookfield and she thought it was a rendering.

It's not a residence - it's a learning centre. Same architect as the Calgary Library

Yes, Snohetta. That's why I mentioned it. They do interesting patterns on their cladding.

I didn't say glazing. I said the grid created by the curtainwall panels. It stands out only because of the simplicity of Brookfield Place. I've met my share of architects over the years and ta lot would agree simple is harder to do since every minute detail is exposed. Pretty ironic in the context of SSP.

Nice updates Caltrane......I'm intrigued by what cladding they'll use for the podium and ultimately how well this'll relate with the existing urban fabric.

Those Edmonton towers are huge, in real life they've gotta be quite the sight.

I'm not really sure how that could be avoided given the the taper.

I think it would have looked better if the wider panels were designed (faked) as a normal sized panel and a thin panel.

It's the north side. It's not directly on Yonge. It's a narrow site and the north side is extremely close to the property line. I don't recall but, it's probable they had to strike a deal with the neighbouring hotel to give up their air rights to get this approved.

I appreciate the tower is just wide enough to forgo a wall of spandrel like RCMI or any number of razor thin international towers.

I was wondering if that might be it. That would be a shame. Those older buildings give the street character. Rows on rows of similar glass condos would be depressing.

Caltrane is just speculating. Building or no building, it doesn't really matter when it comes to building codes.

you see the narrow strip of grey windows between the brown heritage building and Massey that terraces at the top of it? That's the hotel.

Wait ... Nevermind ... I forgot the other bank building in which Massey is infringing upon
