[QUOTE=NewYorkDominates;5821533]^I'm pretty sure the CTBUH doesn't care where the tower is situated, guidelines are guidelines;though it will be a blow to New York City and America.

You may be right. In the event that the CTBUH considers it an atenna, I think that Durst will have to find some way to redesign the mast.

One of his big pitches to secure tennants for the building has been that companies could work in "the tallest building in the western hemisphere." It would be a crushing blow for the tower and for Durst should that not be the case.

That is why I think that this current design is not final. Purhaps they could enclose the mast in some sort of lattice steel cage similar to BoA Tower (also controlled by Durst.) That would be cheap and much more aesthetically pleasing than the piece of crap we have now.

Is it just me, or does it have a striking resemblence to the elder wand from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows? Seriously, look:

^That's why I want CTBUH to consider an antenna so badly,so we can gain national attention.Maybe than we can have some redesigned spire.

I like the design but I really don't like how the roof kind of slants.

There's one thing I never understood... Why is the color of the glass in renderings so different from the actual cladding?

Slants? It's called perspective. I assure you the roof doesn't slant in the slightest.

There is no color really, it depends what the glass is reflecting.

They will stand by their guidlines, but if there's any room it can be interpreted as a spire, I think they will go that route. As far as people getting over it,
most people don't care now. As far as I'm concerned however, if it's an architectural element, it is a horrible one, and will always remain so if built in that fashion.

Well let's see, the broadcasters would be moving there from the ESB and paying Durst money for what reason???

How much has the tower rise between 9/11/'10 and 9/11/'11? I know that now it has rise @368 feet in total because on the 10th anniversary it was roughly 1000 feet tall.

Construction Week: Crane Tower Erected at One WTC
09/05/2012
By Tim Grogan and ENR Staff

Quote:
Workers Erect Crane Tower for One World Trade Center Spire

Crews are installing dunnage for a new crane that will lift the pieces of the 408-ft-tall spire atop One World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. The primary steel structure of the future 1,776-ft-tall office building is topped out at 1,368 ft—the height of the taller of the original twin 110-story towers. The erection of the structural-steel spire will rank the skyscraper as the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere when it is completed in early 2014.

Workers topped out the 977-ft-tall Four WTC on June 25. The shorter office tower is on course to be the first tower to open at the World Trade Center site since 2006, when the 52-story replacement for Seven WTC was finished. Completion of Four WTC, designed by Fumihiko Maki, is set for mid-2013.

For funsies, I looked. There are pics on this page... 1 WTC was just a tiny baby on 9/11/10!

And from 2011...

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...23628&page=811

Don't know what the height was back in 2010, though. But pictures are the next best thing, right?

I like the look of the antenna, the same as I like the ones in Times Square. It's purely functional, and it has that gritty industrial (yet slightly futuristic) look that many other modern towers do in NYC. I wasn't a huge fan of the architectural spire... it was just a foam facade... pure ornamentation disguising something underneath. Architecture should be honest.
