I really enjoyed Kolkata. Such a vibrant city. You did a nice job capturing the colors, did you see any animal sacrifices at the Kali chat?

very interesting but doesnt look very sanitary. all that trash in the streets and waterways really detract from the beautiful architecture and scenery.

Well no, "sanitary" is the last word I'd use to describe Kolkata. Be glad that pictures can't convey smells.

No, I visited Kali Ghat in the afternoon where they told me about the animal sacrifices in the morning. I wanted to check it out but left the next day. I met a Spaniard that told me he was accosted at the Ghat by crazed devotees trying to steal his glasses and clothes to offer them to Kali. Didn't experience that either.

Great thread. I am proud to have been born there and spent my first year of life as a Bengali. I have been back twice and to India 5 times. Love it and the people.
