The boom seems to be back! I was there 1.5 years ago, I think I caught Miami in one of those rare moments in history when few tower cranes were at work in the city...

Unfortunate, indeed. Miami should really go greater lengths to protect and safeguard its MCM heritage.

Yeah! another possible 700 footer for Miami!
If they don't break 700 feet with this thing, it's going to look really weird compared to the other towers. If they are really talking iconic, it can't be anything less for that site. I think the Marquis looks iconic, so I think it has to be the same height at least.

Its "Brickell CityCentre" now rather than CitiCentre:

What's in a name? Swire believes 'CityCentre' is worth $1 billion

South Florida Business Journal by Oscar Pedro Musibay, Reporter
Date: Tuesday, December 18, 2012, 2:49pm EST

Swire Properties, developer of $1 billion worth of offices, retail, residences and hotel rooms in Miami, is tweaking its high-profile project's name.
Going forward, the project's name will be Brickell CityCentre, which is consistent with the company's other projects including Citygate in Hong Kong. Up until the Tuesday announcement, the project had been called CitiCentre, with an "i" instead of a "y".
"This adjustment helps the company unify its overall company marketing efforts," according to the company's statement.
The $1.05 billion Brickell CityCentre project broke ground in June. It comprises 5.4 million gross square feet including a shopping center, two residential towers, a hotel, wellness center, serviced apartments, two office buildings, and 3,100 parking spaces. The site also incorporates a Miami Metromover station.
The project is being developed in two phases, with the first phase, including all elements except for one office tower, scheduled for completion in 2015. The final office tower is expected by 2018.

On the other hand ...

FAA moves to further restrict downtown building heights, could decapitate several planned towers:

The return of the cranes: Miami-Dade construction projects on the horizon in 2013
http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/01/0...nes-miami.html

Quote:
By far the centerpiece project to date is Brickell CityCentre, a $1.05 billion shopping and mixed-use project that broke ground in June 2012 and will span three blocks just west of Brickell Avenue to the south of the Miami River.

The 5-million-square-foot mega-project by developer Swire Properties will include a department store, luxury shops, restaurants, a hotel, office towers and condominiums. It is expected to be connected with bridges and covered walkways and to cement downtown Miami’s emerging image as a trendy place to work, live and play.

In Brickell alone, three new condominium projects already are under construction: Jorge Perez’s Related Group is building Millecento, a 42-story tower with 382 units, and MyBrickell, a smaller project with 28 stories and 192 units shoehorned onto a 0.4-acre site. Newgard Development Group is building BrickellHouse, a 46-story, 374-unit project.

More building, much more, is coming.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Miami is a city that needs an iconic piece of architecture. Something in the realm of a tropical Empire State Building. I've heard that Zaha Hadid might be designing a building in Miami and that idea is making me drool. Imagine something like this in Miami.

I think it's time for Miami to think outside the 'condo' box.

This could be the most exciting development cycle, in the history of Miami, both height-wise and design-wise ...

... unless the FAA has its way. If it does, some of these will be chopped. And no doubt others will outright cancel.

Miami World Center update, future project keeps acquiring properties

According to exMiami, the owners of the planned Miami Worldcenter megaproject have picked up two more pieces of land.
Already having caused a big brouhaha when they snagged Grand Central Park, they are now said to be the purchasers of the recently sold Grand Central Nightclub across the street and the former Camillus House site at 726 NE 1st Avenue. And the Worldcenter real estate shopping spree shows no signs of stopping. We can only speculate at how big this project will eventually be.

Although still one of the most desolate areas of downtown Miami, the Worldcenter land and its immediate environs have a big, big future, including of course the Worldcenter itself, the new Zaha Hadid tower about a block away to the east, and the new All Aboard Florida train station about a block away to the south.

Yes, that darn FAA taking all our money and giving it to their cronies on Wall Street! Air travel safety be damned! Condo developers don't give a crap about money... they just care about making us happy!

And besides, Miami is is a glitzy and glamorous city for skyscrapers.

What are you babbling about ? Giving proposed highrises a haircut isn't going to make air passengers safer.
