Smile Freki presents the USA

Hi guys

As a kid growing up in the small Kingdom of Denmark in the 80s the US was a massive cultural influence and while I with age developed a political view that differs quite differently from just about everything US, it's still a place I find very fascinating as well as very familiar..

September 11 2001 was a major point in my life - I went from a planed law enforcement career to a return to military service and ended up serving an additional half decade more than planned..

The attacks also marks the point where I decided I should travel more as you really never know when it's too late to go.. or when the global situation changes to a point where what we take for granted today is gone..

So I did start travelling the world and I did start going to the US and I have been going there roughly once a year in the last 2 decades.. ( came back from New York a few weeks ago, was in Hawaii last winter and are already planing a return to the desert states come next summer )

There is A LOT about the US that I think very negatively about - but this is not the thread where I want to rant about that - for the same reason I will not be posting images from neglected or negative places despite I have visited ghettos and run down areas as well as areas so poverty stricken I didn't believe my own eyes..
I don't go to the US to focus on that and I didn't make this thread to focus on that - this thread ( like all my other photo-threads ) is about showing the beauty and diversity of the world and share some of my great memories..

If someone wants to talk politics or ask such related questions, by all means drop me a PM - let's just keep this thread focused on the locations and experiences - thanks

As for the thread I will keep it in the same format as my "Freki presents Denmark" thread ( Link: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=221043 )

This means posts of typically 5 photos from different locations typical with a mix of urbanity, nature and sights..
I will update fairly often, but not too often as I don't want to make it feel like a chore to myself ( as older photo-threads did become to me ) just as I don't want to spam the photo section as I know how much effort goes into making threads and how much it sucks not to get any feedback and get drowned in other threads..

As for the photos they are all by me, they are all copyrighted and if interested in any of them in any way just contact me instead of stealing them, we can likely work something out..

Finally I want to point out that while I have been to the US many times I tend to go to locations I have already been ( 4 times to Florida, 5 times to California, 3 times to NYC and so on ) so don't expect me to cover all states - and don't get too angry if it tends to be the same cities that show up again and again..

With all that out of the way lets's get started - and by all means very very free to comment or ask questions as it's a great motivator and keeps the threads much more interesting that just photos - so don't hold back and thanks in advance

nice pics and more to come i hope --- of your political commentary i would just say you might also try harder to realize the usa is as vast as europe and its political leanings just as varied as there and anywhere else. ie., you and your country are obviously umm, concerned (to say the least lol) about chumpy trumpy and yet others like in poland and hungary cheering him. in other words, various political leanings in your greater region just as across the usa.

Nice pictures!

Your picture of Miami is actually Miami Beach, which is a separate municipality.

FREKI thanks for posting these and as always your pic threads are always worth viewing.
Putting politics aside what most has surprised you about the US upon your visits?
Is it what you expected?

You picked some great places to visit and your photos are wonderful! I also love Copenhagen. As for our country, there is more that unites us than divides us, but we're in a dark period right now. That's all I have to say.

Hard to answer that question without including politics as I was honestly quite shocked by the poverty, inequality and infrastructure upon my first couple visits ( and honestly still is to this day ) but I guess the scale was also a shocker - this was before I started traveling in Asia, so the huge skyscrapers was new to me, the same goes for the car and SUVs sizes back then ( these days the difference is less ) and of course animal life being bigger - where we have seagulls, cats and seals San Francisco had Pelicans, Raccoons and Sea Lions
