City increased its total construction output to approximately 36 billion in 2014. I'm hoping 2015 will see that increase by a modest 23%. It did increase about 25-26% from 2013, so I could be undercounting it once many of these proposals start seeing steel.

The economic benefits of all this activity gave the city close to 60 billion in revenue. So boom times = a happy city.

KKR eyeing 400K sf office condo at Hudson Yards
May 12, 2015

Quote:
Private equity giant Kohlberg Kravis Roberts is considering buying a 400,000-square-foot office condo in Hudson Yards.

The firm has occupied 160,000 square feet in Sheldon Solow’s 9 West 57th Street for nearly two decades, the New York Observer reported. Now, it is considering investing in Related Companies’ and Oxford Properties Group’s massive West Side development.

Related and Oxford are “going to take advantage there in the strong interest in the investor market and look to monetize and take some of the risk off of the table for some of the opportunities they are marketing,” a source told the newspaper. “I’m sure it’s not a [financial] stretch to get the space.”

Work has begun on the northern edge of Hudson Yards.

New crane on top of the platform.

First steel beams above the platform for the retail center. I thought the retail will be built last?

Just appreciating

The engineering and logistics of completing this project without closing the rail-yard is mind-boggling. Those guys are earning their pay with this one. For that alone I give this project a thumbs up. The fact they are basically covering a wasteland with a beautiful development is even better. So whatever the final product is...

^^I agree. Compared to that old computer animated video they put out of how the tracks were to be covered this puts it into perspective. Great video!

Just think, a decade from now there will be people who have never known a westside with open railyards. They won't be able to imagine it, the same way I can't imagine the way it was around Grand Central.

Are they going to build on the existing tracks? That sounds surreal. Would be an engineering marvel.

Yes and I hope it is being documented by discovery channel or some other source so we can watch this marvel come together.
