Twenty-five years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, 8,000 illuminated balloons trace the course of the former border that once separated East and West.

Fantastic memorial and superb shots - love the mixture of close and distant shots - a real gem.

West Berlin must have been an odd place to live.

Very nice pictures of Berlin on the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Thanks for sharing all these historical shots, zeitgeist.

Great initiative to settle all those 8000 illuminated ballons in to celebrate it.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

The aerial is spectacular.

The only time I have ever been in Berlin was in 1966, at the height of the Cold War, when the Wall was very much in place. I remember standing at an observation platform overlooking Potsdamer Platz and it was all ruins. Some of the bombed-out buildings from WWII hadn't even been pulled down yet.

Nice pictures. I see that there's some Belgian blocks or stones marking where the wall was in some of the pictures. Is there an outline along the entire former wall?
