They are called pilings and most of the newer buildings in the downtown were built on them. All of Jackson Square was built on pilings and the same with First Ontario Centre.

now passed the two year mark, if this project is still happening, they dont do very much to help get their remaining sales (ie break ground already).

This has to be still a go. Isn't there major fines for destroying a building and no new construction?

It was never a demolition. Somehow this got through planning as an alteration so that rule won't apply.

Some interesting/concerning news. Stanton Renaissance appears to be selling off their On The Go Mimico site, which looks like it's already begun construction.

Here is the listing:

The UrbanToronto thread on the project goes into detail about issues involving the restoration of the old Mimico train station which was used as a sales centre.

Lastly, does anyone know if this guy has secured financing? 80 million is a lot of money.

Will David Blachard use this a precedent for the gore?
Allow me to answer those questions from 22 Feb, 2014.

The developer is in a receivership. Not sure if this will impact the Connolly but it can't be good.

The Connolly is probably under a different numbered company, but if they don't have any money then I'd say this is dead. Might be time to stop by and get some nice big chunks of stone.

Will they sell it to another developer? I could see that being a decent deal, one side gets some cash to stay afloat, the other gets all the architecture, paperwork, and many sales started for only part of the costs.

i really hope there is a way to save this project ... the interest is there... the sales were very good and the design is very very nice ... it would be a shame to just let it fall apart

The Connolly project is owned by Louie Santaguida, who has an interest in Terrasan 327 Royal York Rd. Limited, which was developing the Mimico project — called On The Go. That project went into receivership in late February.

"They're completely separate entities," St. Jean said. "It's a different set of financiers. Everything's still moving ahead (with The Connolly)."

Glen Norton, director of economic development for the city, confirmed the two projects are "totally different."

"As far as we (the city) know, the receivership is just for the On The Go, Mimico project," said Norton. "Louie is a common factor to both."

But, Norton added, the Mimico condos were being developed by the Terrasan 327 York Rd. Limited company and The Connolly by a company listed as 2203284 Ontario Inc.

The Connolly is listed as a project of Stanton Renaissance on Stanton Renaissance's website. Stanton has a partnership with The Holmes Group.

"Louie called us as recently as last week," said Norton. "He said they'd be starting construction before November. I don't know the degree of cross-over (between Terrasan and 2203284) but we don't want to overreact."

He said the city has been supportive of the project, located on James Street South near Hunter Street, and people here have been buying into it.

The Connolly is presently envisioned as a 259-unit, $80 million undertaking.

No sigh of relief from me. The City Manager seems remarkably naive and poorly informed: "I don't know the degree of cross-over (between Terrasan and 2203284) but we don't want to overreact."

This project may have a legal separation from the one being seized, but this one will have the same fate. I'm taking bets.

Despite the City's attempting to paper over the cracks, this will end up as an all too typical result: a pile of rubble, "Louie" walks away.

Wouldn't doubt it, based on their track record so far.

Sounds fishy, he said the same thing like last year, "we'll start construction before november.."
