It's a construction method where the concrete is poured with hollow conduit running through the slab. After the concrete sets, steel cable is run through the conduit, tensioned, and then grouted in place. You can see see of the cables sticking out of the corner of the floor plate in the above photo. The technique was adapted from bridge building, and can also be seen over at the deck for the Manhattan West site.

Moinian seeks to add auto dealership at 42nd Street high-rise

Quote:
The Moinian Group is looking to swap out about 34,000 square feet of retail space in its under-construction glass tower at the edge of 11th Avenue’s Auto Row to make way for a car dealership.

With the first 12 stories of its mixed-use tower rising out of the ground at 605 West 42nd Street, Moinian filed an application with the city earlier this summer to reconfigure its building plans to accommodate an auto dealership.
Under Moinian’s original plans the 60-story building has nearly 44,000 square feet of retail space on the ground level and in the cellar.

The company is now proposing taking the bulk of that space for the dealership, leaving about 10,000 square feet of retail space at the building’s southeast corner fronting 42nd Street and 11th Avenue.

Moinian Hit with Partial Stop Work Order on West 42nd Street

BY LAUREN ELKIES SCHRAM 7/29 6:05PM

Quote:
The Moinian Group‘s under-construction 60-story rental tower at 605 West 42nd Street has been hit with a partial stop work order, according to Department of Buildings records.

The development company, led by CEO Joseph Moinian, was cited for “six randomly visible broken wires” on the crane at the 11th Avenue construction site. DOB issued the partial stop work order—which stops a certain type of work or work on a particular section of the construction site or building—last Friday and it won’t be cleared until the company resolves it and contacts DOB for clearance, a DOB spokesman explained.

In addition to the partial stop work order, the site has three open DOB violations. One of the violations, for improperly marked hoisting equipment, is associated with a $1,600 fine, which The Moinian Group paid.

I was thinking the same thing and wondering if it looks as bad in person as it does in a photo.

Are all 1,550 units going to be rental, or are the upper units going to have some condo units? To me it would make sense to keep the ones with spectacular views as condos.
