was reading the article about new west and foudn this

Quote:
A few minutes later, she points to the Brooklyn Pub on the eastern edge of the downtown, noting that it will undergo major renovations this summer. There’s plenty of speculation that residential units will be built on top.

They have 3 towers building around the coquitlam center already. I saw some of the units when they were preselling. Really expensive units. Guess you pay for the brand.

Looks like a pretty neato podium! I hope that corner space is retail as opposed to the tower lobby...

Another Bosa tower that looks hideous. Once this (and the Evergreen Line) are finished, one will be able to take a Skytrain tour of ugly Bosa towers, from Evergreen to Affinity.

I don't think that I'd call it ugly.. boring, sure, uninspired, absolutely.. but it's the suburbs.

Bosa took over Affinity from another developer. They weren't involved in the planning or design of that project. Just sayin'.

I guess people were looking for a fresh new design that broke out of the mould, something like Charleston Place in Langley.

For god sakes it is just a condo tower in the burbs, in all fairness while boring, it is not ugly. And it is far above what is being built in most Canadian suburbs (look at laval for truely ugly), especially given how all the towers in Coquitlam are being built with decent urban style podiums.

Coquitlam is actually doing a very good job IMO in creating a downtown. The transformation over the last 10 years has actually been an amazing one often overlooked on this forum.

I rather they go for the boring glass box look like they do all over Toronto, instead of trying to design something and ending up with pomo

I thought the boring glass boxes in Toronto was them trying to design something new each time

No personal vendetta, just heavily opinionated.

Didn't know that about Affinity, I suppose it's unfair to blame Bosa for the design then. That being said, I still insist that Affinity is the ugly stepchild in terms of the new towers in the Gilmore-Brentwood-Holdom corridor.

And to those who say everything in the suburbs looks exactly like this, I'd venture to say Beedie's "The Austin" or Polygon's "Celadon" as decent examples of something more aesthetically pleasing than...this.

It doesn't have to be anything new, or even inspired. But surely the baseline for suburb developments could be "nice to look at" instead of "it exists".

I can see why that tower disappoints some people, but I think it's "easy on the eye." Anyway it's not a shocker, and people will get used to it easily enough. It's not outstanding, but it's not grotesque, either.

In fact, what really captured me in this render was the image of the Evergreen Line train speeding by. The aforementioned (by Metro-One) nicely done Coquitlam downtown, and the green space in that area, will give this line, at times, a "parklike" aspect. And in the context of good urban planning, too, IMO.

I agree with Metro-One - I went to Coquitlam centre for the first time in decades and was really impressed with what is going on there. The designs aren't mind blowing, but it was the most appealing of any Vancouver suburb besides parts of the north shore.

Vancouver's supposed to bring the heat design-wise and doesn't even do so itself.
