Sort of in the same vein but Presidential Towers in Chicago were originally planned to have six towers instead of four.

The second, taller tower would have gone on the other side near that microwave tower (which has nothing on it anymore; that's an old picture.) This building is called West Arthur Place but it's on East Arthur Street. That causes confusion.

You laugh but this is the second tallest office building in my city.

One Detroit Center was originally going to have a (shorter?) twin.

And the Pontratrain Hotel was also going to have a twin as well.

California Plaza was supposed to be 3 towers. The tallest would've looked like Cal Plaza 1 (the shorter one) but it would have risen to 65 stories.

The site is now Angel's Knoll park.

One of Montreal's tallest was supposed to be one of a trio of identical buildings (tour de la bourse, at Place Victoria)

Quote:
The original project, conceived during the Expo 67-era economic boom, called for three identical towers arrayed in a triangle. It was scaled back to two towers flanking each side of the central core. Ultimately a single tower was built, due to financial constraints; the Hôtel Delta Centre-Ville was later built on the site of what was to be the second identical tower thus forming Place Victoria.

What is currently called the accenture tower in Minneapolis, was to have an identicle twin. It became a rather nice green space instead.

Yep. Wheren't they both supposed to contain offices for Blue Cross/Blue Shield? IIRC, I think they changed their minds and axed their "twin" tower plan; too much office space...

It would have been pretty cool to have a series of "twins" in the City of Brotherly Love. Right now, I think that specific parcel remains as an undeveloped grassy lot.

One and Two Libery Place (almost twins)
Centre Square (think that's what they're called -- almost twins with the giant clothes pin in the center)
One and Two Commerce Square
The IBX and this building...

Nope. It was going to be an indentical twin, same height, everything.

In this photo, it'd have rose to the left where the current Two Detroit Center is - a parking garage.

Fountain Place of Dallas was supposed to have a twin too, if memory serves.

There is a 14 floor highrise (sorry no picture) in Troy Michigan that got it's twin very late in life. The original Columbia Center (West) was built in 1989 while it's twin, Columbia Center East was not completed until 2000. It was quite a shock to see a building that had been around since I was 3 (I lived across the street) suddenly get a twin.

Anyway, they were both designed by Minoru Yamasaki & Associates (the designer of the original World Trade Center). I always liked them.
