Would I be safe to assume that the hotel will use the parkade for it's parking needs? Seems like they are not going too deep into the ground for basement work.

Yeah, it doesn't look like they're doing much excavation. I'm excited for this project to get going. I think the airport will have a much larger feel when there's building's lining both sides of that street.

Just reposting kph06's update from the Stanfield thread. This live image looks like it updates automatically in the forum.

I had forgotten there was a thread dedicated for this building. Local carpenters have been protesting the use of Long Valley Formwork to build the structure as they are using their out of province (Ontario) workforce. I am wondering if they are even shipping the crane in from Ontario, it looks like all the pieces are fully covered when they arrive on-site.

I wonder if there are any cranes available in the Halifax area right now?

There are a couple that have been regulars in HRM but aren't currently up, and a few that should be coming down at any time.... I may have a chart that tracks tower cranes in HRM, which is definitely ammo my friends use against me. I think renting a crane is fairly easy too, its a relatively long term rental, so I'm sure the shipping costs turn out to be a small percentage of the overall project costs.

Judging by the pieces on site, it looks like this might be the crane going up:

An ALT Hotel was recently built near Pearson International in Mississauga, and with the 905 phone number in the picture, I'm guessing it's from there.

As I mentioned on the library thread it looks like both this and the library will be in crane building mode tomorrow.

I checked out the Le Germain hotel here in Calgary when I had some friends in town on two separate visits recently, since it's part of the ATL network. I have to say I was really surprised at the quality of the finishes in the hotel - you had to have a special card just to activate the lights in the room (if you pulled it out, all the lights went off). It was quite futuristic. The rooms were like lofts, very high ceilings (12') with a lot of the pipework exposed and the bathrooms were huge! Now that I think about it, I think they were in some of the more expensive rooms - but still quite impressive. The only thing that surprised me what the lights had a tendency to flicker now and then, which made me concerned about the wiring. But...was still nice.

If that's what you'll expect at this hotel - it will be quite nice.

It may seem futuristic, but they've been using this feature in hotels for decades. We don't see it here very often because it's usually meant address high energy costs or where there are energy shortages. You see it in most Euro hotels and I've seen it in hotels in Vietnam and India.

Nice to see a new hotel chain in Halifax. I think this will be great addition to the airport and nice to finally have one AT the airport not just near to it.

In China all hotels have those slots for power, I think it's a good idea, as hotels are some of the most wasteful places, and using power while you're not there is only another way to waste.

If my cell had a flash I would have grabbed some pics of the site last night. The crane draws your attention from the 102 before even getting to the Airport exit. A very visible object. Standing outside the arrival doors this hotel is going to absolutely dominate. Can't wait.
