Haha, so true Metro! But I have to say that some of you weather guys take it way too seriously with daily weather updates and debacles.

And yeah, we all love people like Lio. He was the first one to find himself on my Ignore List.

But back to this building... I don't think height or shape will be an issue here. The lot is allowed to have this height so they should pass with flying colors. I am mostly concerned that they might be doing some cheapening later on. I really hope these new towers would finally break the spandrel curse we have been having in this city.

I was commenting this on another forum that perhaps these proposals and the success of YVR are all signs of us moving to the next level of global cities. Maybe we will become a Beta+ city soon.

hopefully the city will allow this to be built taller, because this is by far one of the best of the current proposed iconic Alberni towers. In fact, I wish all of the new Alberni proposals are not only built but are taller and EXPAND the luxury district quite a bit.

Folks, this will have a spin-off effect for the rest of the city in that we will finally have a true, luxury district complete with residential, shopping, restaurants, and office - all of the essentials for a true economy! We haven't ever had all of these elements before but YES now have a great chance to make Vancouver a true global world city while also vastly improving the skyline (exp if we can make all of these sleek, plush Alberni IconTowers to be well over 150m).

It would be interesting if these new towers would be somehow able to bridge pedestrian traffic between Robson Street with Seawall. I am not sure if they will be able to extend the luxury district, as it is quite a few blocks east from here.

How is it that Australia has two cities in the Alpha delineation?

CM, do you mean why is Sydney Alpha+, and Melbourne Alpha-, whereas Canada has only Toronto As straight Alpha, and Montreal is Beta+?
(Yet Toronto seems so much more a global powerhouse than Melbourne, or even Sydney)?
I've wondered that myself. However, this is the rating list made up by Loughborough University in England, and while I'm sure it is very valid, no one said it is Biblical, or written in stone.
Other equally qualified think tanks might rate cities differently. For example, Seattle and Vancouver are both Beta, in the Loughborough list,
yet that seems a bit off to me, with Seattle so much more an economic centre than Vancouver, and with so much more culture and fine arts (esp music), too.

No, I mean as Trofirhen clarified.

In all respects Canada should be a bigger player than Australia. We are larger, older, more populous, have more wealth and resources, and yet Australia has more Alpha cities than we do. In fact, their #1 and #2 cities are a whole category above our own. How does this happen when we have so much that should put us ahead?

I get this is off topic, so perhaps break it off into it's own thread in the Canada section?

Had the separatist threat/FLQ crisis not happened in the 1970s, Montreal would almost definitely also be an Alpha city.

Crap, getting off-track.

Back on thread, to respond to the comment about letting this building be taller because it is viewed as "more beautiful" or something to that affect, is not exactly how it works. The city spent a lot of time and effort (and consultation) on building heights in the new West End plan and aren't going to just bump the limit.

Australia plays the role as the only large, western country in that region. A lot of business goes through Australia from the West and East/Southeast Asia.
Canada has the US next to it.

This should all be fairly obvious.

The landscaping of this is as beautiful as the architecture. The waterfall flowing under the building through the Japanese/moss garden is an incredible touch.

So it is 133 meters (436ft) and 42 floors. 188 units and 271 parking stalls.

Someone update that to the title. Not that huge skyline impact as per the documents.
