It's unfortunate. I love what Vulcan is doing for SLU in a general sense, and I like much of their architecture. But this one is dark gray (strike one), without traditional detail (strike two), and with bizarre window shades (strike three). Alley 24 will look nice from the other side, it'll add a great mix of uses to Cascade, and it's great that it's going for LEED. I like the pass-through.

Yeah, I like how they incorporated the old building (not seen in the rendering), but I'm not too crazy about the rest. It is cool to see SLU coming together though.

I walked by 5th and Madison today and it looks like the demo has started. The sidewalks around the site are closed, the fence is up, and there were a few small bulldozers on site.

That's great news! Along with Bellevue Towers starting excavation on Wednesday, Four Seasons marking their official start last week, and possibly Olive 8 tomorrow, it's quite an eight-day period!

The cranes have come down at 2200 Westlake (still U/C).
Cosmopolitan is U/C up the street.

^Didn't Tom Robbins make a quip about hanging vegetation in "Still Life with the Woodpecker"? Something about connecting the rooftops of all downtown highrises with an assortment of vegetation, therefor when it rains, nobody gets wet.

^BTW next time you're downtown with your camera could you take some shots of Hotel 1000? I haven't seen an update on that in months--considering WAMU's progress, I would assume that it is close to completion.
