The cranes can't work when the winds are 30mph or higher at cranes. So it is has been very hard to predict any date, and putting up final sections requires a few days in a row of low winds because crane has to jump, lift sections, and then come back down. In the meantime there is a couple weeks worth of electrical work on ground first. But scheduling any sort of ceremony this far ahead, is impossible. The weather forecast for example for next week is bad already with snow and rain Monday and then around 25mph at 1500 ft for Tuesday and wed is 25-30mph. So hopefully we can get a few hours in next week to lift up rings and work, they have to go in first due to crane logistics

Because the planned cladding for the rest of the spire would have matched and looked just as good. It is the only part of the cladding that remains. This is what happens when you remove parts of a structure with no thought to a redesign.

That is not what the original cladding was going to look like. Did you ever look closely at the old renders??

There was a playground here on Staten Island that used to be like that. They got rid of it and replaced it with ultra-safe no-fun equipment. Kind of like how they cheaped out on this building

Could this be Durst's ultimate excuse to count the mast as overall architectural height? Gotta say it looks so neat and polished!

The whole spire should have been made out of the same metal as the beacon with a observation pod somewhere at 1,600 ft. So much potential to make this tower even greater.
