I wondered if there is something more there with Subban... from some of those arguments last year with the GM and coaching group.

Montreal clearly got desperate and traded Subban two days before his No Movement Clause kicked in. Nashville destroys Montreal in this trade.

Hall for Larsson is a tossup IMO and pretty even. Edmonton would have had too many forwards to protect for the Expansion Draft and needed D. I think both will do well for their new teams. Hall is a good player but I think his personality wears thin pretty quick. I'd rather the defensive upside in Larsson, especially considering the potential offensive upside of players like McDavid, Draisaitl, and Puljujarvi growing more this season. I'm guessing there was a McDavid/Hall power struggle that management was seeking to avoid...

As for Stamkos resigning...lol Leafs fans.

If I lived in Montreal I'd be grabbing my pitchfork and heading to the Bell Centre. The fans protested when we traded Kovy, this time they should sit-in until Bergevin and Therrien are fired.

Some, myself included, would argue that the GM is the reason the Canadians suck. There's really little of a team outside of Subban and Price.

The Hall one is sort of sad, but predictable. New Jersey got the best of this trade with respect to what both teams could use. Having said that I think Edmonton with their draft and this trade combined are miles ahead of where they were before the offseason. The value of any of the other forwards not named Hall and McDavid was pretty low. N(a)il in some cases. So while I think Edmonton loses that trade Hall > Larsson, I don't think it puts them in a bad spot though. The fact that they got to pick Jesse Puljujarvi at number four makes that an easier trade to rationalize.

If I put those two things together that's not bad.

Montreal though.

Stamkos really isn't needed in Toronto.
The Leafs are doing really well with the rebuild and are stacking some pretty impressive prospects. Stamkos isn't old, but he falls just outside the sweat-spot with a rebuilding team. He'd be more helpful to a contender.

The Habs wasted the Subban trade. They really should haven been thinking of using him for a rebuild. There aren't enough pieces on the team to make them a contender, and keeping Subban or trading for someone like Weber doesn't help them in the short term or long term.

Tell that to all the Leaf fans who kept insisting that a good old Ontario boy like Stammer would sign with them for a song. You're correct about the rebuild, though - on both teams.

I'm curious where Montreal is going to get their offense from now that they've lost that dynamicism from the backend in Subban. Weber isn't exactly an offensive D and I have a feeling Josi was covering up a lot of his lapses in Nashville.

Wow.

Edmonton and Montreal both got destroyed on these trades. Wow

However, Edmonton improves GREATLY from this trade, while Montreal takes a huge step back. Edmonton needed a puck moving defenseman BADLY, and they finally got one, despite losing the trade. Montreal may as well trade Price and Paccioretty and rebuild. They just closed their already faint window of contending.
