Of course the model is not completely finished yet. I still have to build the surrounding grounds, entrances and the office and clubhouse buildings. It will be a couple of more months... or maybe four or five before that is all finished.

I also want to wait to see how the real finished product looks before starting on that. Judging from Imre's pictures and the announced opening date - it won't be much longer!
Once your building is completed, make sure to close it again in a month and put it back under u/c

I'm surprised to see recent activity in this thread

I've been taking the past few months off as other things have had a higher priority and my overall will to work on this has been low.

However rest assured that it will eventually be completed!

P.S. Did anyone spot the major error I made during the construction of the tower?

They are custom, but theoretically you could.

Brickshelf user RoccoB has been creating LEGO Digital Designer virtual models of some of my designs.

You can download the software and models for free. Click on the first link for the model files and the second to download the software from LEGO. With LEGO Digital Designer you can import or create models, and then order them directly from LEGO. The software will price out your design and you can even design a custom box and instructions.

When I checked the prices, the Empire State Building came in at $813.09, the Chrysler Building at $722.73, and the Sears Tower lists at $913.91. They are pricey because you are paying for a custom service provided by LEGO. The parts are hand picked by workers I believe.

(Note: I bought my parts in the aftermarket - at probably half that cost)

There is one big issue, you can't submit an order for anything that is a trademark. If you submit any of my skyscrapers for purchase I'm pretty sure they will be rejected by LEGO.

One workaround would be to recast the pieces from each model into another model that isn't copyrighted (it could be something as simple and meaningless as a big cube) - essentially creating a generic parts set.

The cheapest solution is to directly source the parts from www.bricklink.com, but be prepared to have to order from multiple stores to get everything.

Thanx for the credit jsr! Just thought I'd note that regular LDD may not be able to open the digital models anymore.

As Spencer kindly informed me, there's a new mode for LDD known as LEGO Universe Mode that I believe will be used for players who wish to upload their creations to their own little town in the upcoming LEGO Universe game when it comes out. The "LU" mode comes with many MANY more pieces and colors than normal LDD.

Since almost a month ago, I've converted all my digital skyscrapers to LU mode so that I could add all the necessary colors and pieces that weren't currently available. Because of this, however, you might not be able to open it with normal LDD, meaning you'd need to add LU mode to the most previous version of LDD.

After looking around for awhile, I found a page on Eurobricks that explains how to activate LU mode, how it works, and how to convert previously existing models to it. Here's the url:

http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/inde...howtopic=40794

O and btw, I did make a version of my own of Spencer's Burj model. I also made an LDD model of the building, but it's broken up into about 5 different files so as to not slow down the program's performance. And it really would only make sense to me. But I'll see if I can't try and do something with it so I can post it on my Brickshelf (link in jsr's above post). The building just has A LOT of anlges and it's frustrating trying to get the hinge-align tool to do what you want it to do.

O and to answer this question, it was the positions of the setbacks.

But it looks like you've corrected it now

No progress on the base this summer due to a busy schedule, but here is the tower (with a generic black base) on display at the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science & Art in Midland MI.

For anyone who's interested, I just finished the LDD file for part one of Spencer's Burj! Part one being everything up to the first horizontal band of stacked round 1x1 light bluish-gray plates.

Click here to go to the file.
Stay tuned for the rest of the files!

Sorry to anyone who's tried downloading my models recently. The folder on Brickshelf isn't moderating for some reason since I added Burj part 2 . I'll see what I can do
