Er, I don't think many construction crews actually live in SF or shares its ethos, if you get my drift. I think generally they live--or at least would be more "at home" in, say, Modesto.

I usually use my "eccentric old fart" persona to get info out of them--usually works.

I've been thinking of developing a "weird dude who was a laborer many years ago (I was very briefly, for a plumber), trying to catch up on today's techniques" persona. Although I should probably just tell them I'm a SF construction project blogger, which is pretty close to the truth.

I agree, just being honest would be best, otherwise get yourself a hard hat and maybe a roll of drawings to look more...ehhhh...

A new piece of equipment was in use today for bringing the dirt from the bottom of the hole to the waiting trucks. This one has a much longer articulated arm than they have been using:

So, I'm going to say it for like the tenth time in this thread: they must be getting close to the bottom.

I may actually be right (for once!). Today, all the earth moving equipment is gone. In fact all the workers are gone. There isn't a soul on site. Perhaps Malcolm finished up early and the pile crew isn't due onsite just yet.

^They might not drive any piles.

Remember the infinity, all they did was dig a very deep hole and then pour a massive (over 10ft thick) mat foundation.

Good call, rocketman. That seems to be exactly what they're doing. Rebar is being assembled on the floor of the hole today. This also explains why they went so much deeper than I thought was needed for just 3 levels of parking. Additionally, it's all Webcor onsite now, which makes sense since they're starting on the cement part of the project. I'll post a couple of photos tonight.
