From a street point of view, I like that version better.

I agree. I love this tower. I'd like to see the lousy block to the north redeveloped too. Presumably, Vornado can't acquire all of the properties.

When they do eventually demolish Hotel Penn and the block to the north...

I wouldn't eat in any restaurant within a ten block radius. Can you imagine how many rats and roaches will run for cover?

This tower will be great. I love how the base seems so light in comparison to the horrid Hotel Pennsylvania, which is so massive and oppressive.

The rats in Manhattan don't run, they stroll. The area has been improving slowly though, as new residential towers are going and have gone up at opposite ends of the block and around Penn Station. It's this tower though, that will change the status of the immediate neighborhood for good.

Hopefully whenever things get back in gear with this one, the Gimble's Passageway will not get overlooked.

^ It won't. It part of the plan, where the city lets the developer go higher, in return the developer fixes the dilapidated Passageway.

I doubt it. Too close to the Empire State, though if Vornado wanted to get back at them for trying to block the tower, they would throw one up there. I don't think it would take business away from the ESB though. It's just too classic, and tourists love it.

It would be be a superb location for an observation deck so close to the ESB. Would give wonderful views of the old lady from so close. Personally I think an observation deck here would be great, but just because that's my thought doesn't mean to say the developer would agree with me.

I'll still be a little sad to see the Hotel Penn go, I have some fun memories of that place. But the more I see renders for this tower, especially the latest, the more I'm accepting that it's time to move on.

The project was approved, and is now as-of-right. That's what the zoning approvals process covers.

It has nothing to do with a development timetable.

15 Penn Plaza?

Forgive me posting here - I'm from Phoenix, which makes all skyscraper forum blunders forgivable.

So, I don't keep tabs on NYC buildings every day.

That said, I grew up in NJ with a view of the Empire State Builing. I'm curious about the proposal for 15 Penn Plaza, which I guess would have blocked that view.

I would have loved to to have seen 15 Penn Plaza go up right there - not an ESB hater. Love it, but I like construction and progress more.

So, yeah, that's a super long way of saying, Is 15 Penn Plaza happening?

Currently delayed. It won't be built until later on.

The view of the ESB that would be blocked by 15 Penn is an extreme viewpoint. Even if the towers were aligned on the same side of the block, and they aren't,
the view would be so extreme that it would matter for about a couple of seconds. Even the tallest towers of the Hudson Yards won't block out the view of the Empire State.
It would just be less dominant as other rivals fill in.

I always tell tourists to go to the Top of the Rock instead, but they probably ignore me. I think this would be a great spot for an observation deck.
